Anatomy is the study of the structure of the body. Physiology is the study of the function of the body. When a fluid has dissolved as much as possible, it is called a saturated solution. Cells can only live in a solution called saline. To test for acids and alkalis, litmus paper is used. All Llamas Pray To Buddha - alkaline - pink to blue and vice versa. Blood and body tissues are slightly alkali. ph1 describes an acid. the ph of blood is 7.4. Water may be broken into H+ and HO- ions. If H+ ions dominate HO- ions, the solution is an acid. Substances which slow down changes in ph are called buffer substances. Avagadros number is 6.023 x 10^34. Specific gravity = Weight of substance/ weight of equal volume of water. The seven characteristics of living matter are: respiration, reproduction, digestion and absorption, excretion, growth and repair, activity, irratibility - Rudolph the Reideer does Aerobics Explicitly, Getting All Irratable. Superior means above or upper. Inferior means below or lower. Anterior or ventral means towards the front. Posterior or dorsal means towards the back. Distal means furthest from the source. Proximal means closest to the source. A sagital or medial line divides the body into left and right portions. Lateral means furthest from the medial line. Medial means nearest to the medial line. A horizontal section divdes the body into superior and inferior portions. A coronal section divides the body into anterior and posterior portions. The two major body cavities are: the ventral cavity which contains the thorax and abdomen and the dorsal cavity which contains the cranial portion and the spinal portion.
