Revision:Blake - To Tirzah

From The Student Room

To Tirzah

  • The last stanza questions an escape to spirituality, "set me free".
  • "The sexes sprung from shame and pride" is a reference to the fall of man (Biblical reference)
  • There is an emphasis on the fact that everything alive must eventually die, "must be consumed with the earth/To rise from the generation free"
  • "mortal part" is an indication of material nature.
  • "generation free" suggests there is no need for sex or food.
  • The question in the last stanza is a question of identity "what have I to do with thee?"
