To Tirzah
- The last stanza questions an escape to spirituality, "set me free".
- "The sexes sprung from shame and pride" is a reference to the fall of man (Biblical reference)
- There is an emphasis on the fact that everything alive must eventually die, "must be consumed with the earth/To rise from the generation free"
- "mortal part" is an indication of material nature.
- "generation free" suggests there is no need for sex or food.
- The question in the last stanza is a question of identity "what have I to do with thee?"
