Revision:Congruency

From The Student Room

TSR Wiki > Study Help > Subjects and Revision > Revision Notes > Mathematics > Congruency

If two shapes are congruent, they are the same (shape and size). It is often useful to know whether two triangles are congruent.

Two triangles are congruent if (and only if) any one of the following is true:

  • Three sides are equal (SSS).
  • Two angles and a side are equal (AAS).
  • Two sides and the included angle are equal (SAS).
  • In a right-angled triangle, the hypotenuse and one other side are equal (RHS).

This article looks at higher level congruency which would appear on Higher level GCSE papers, on the 6-8 Level KS3 papers and possibly 5-7 KS3 papers.

Another article covering the basics of congruency for shapes in general will be needed to cover the topic for lower KS3 levels and Foundation GCSE.
