This helps to mix the food with digestive juices produced by the stomach. This digestive juice is called GASTRIC JUICE. This juice contains the enzyme Pepsin and HCl Acid (hydrochloric acid). Digestion in the Small Intestine The digestion of maltose into glucose occurs in the small intestine by the enzyme maltase: Maltose ----maltase------> glucose
peptides ---trypsin---> amino acids
Bile is not an enzyme. It is made in the liver and stored in the gall bladder. It helps the enzyme lipase to work faster because it breaks down large fat molecules into tiny fat droplets. This increases the surface area for lipase to work on thereby increasing the speed of fat digestion. --FuturePilot 22:02, 1 June 2009 (BST) |
