The Pluperfect Tense

At GCSE level, you only need to be able to read the pluperfect tense (not write it) but it is simply formed by replacing the present form of the auxillary verb with the imperfect form, then adding the past participle.

The Pluperfect Tense is formed in the same way as the Perfect Tense, only using the Imperfect form of the auxiliary verb.

It is used to refer to something that has happened before another event, ie. "I had already eaten".

eg : J'avais parlé à Pig (I had spoken to Pig).

The same choice of auxiliary verb applies as in the Perfect Tense.
