Revision:Soaps - Technical Codes

From The Student Room

TSR Wiki > Study Help > Subjects and Revision > Revision Notes > Media Studies > Soaps - Technical Codes

  • Simple, straight-forward medium shots favoured-audience feel comfortable.

  • Important technical code- frozen stare at end of an episode to amuse, mock and capture emotion. (Sam’s face in police car, “Gotcha”)

  • Realist style of filming- camerawork does not draw attention to itself, as audience are watching for the characters not setting. Editing makes cutting between shots and scenes largely invisible. Change in aesthetics (Romantic long shot of Alfie and Kat walked down street after Kat’s cancelled wedding)

Comments

These notes are based on the requirements for AQA A2 Media Studies, though will be relevant for other boards too.

Some of the examples may need updating for current exams (though still valid, there are more recent examples you could use).
