TSR Wiki > Study Help > Subjects and Revision > Revision Notes > History > Tips for Securing Top Grades in A Level History
Lets start with the simple stuff...
- keep up to date with all of your work
- have an organised folder
- review your work regularly
- do more than the bare minimum
Next...
- make sure you understand key concepts and theories i.e. communism, feudalism, keynesian economics
- make sure you understand key figures and their importance
- basically don't try to blag your way through. if you don't understand - ASK!
- make sure you know key dates, figures, events and facts
- put a timeline and a few post it notes around your room or whatever works for you. but make sure you know the basics
- get to grips with historiography
- what are the major historiographical trends? who are the key historians in these trends? how have these trends been formed? i.e. political or religious reasons? what does recent research suggest?
Most importantly...
- read around your subject. a lot. i can't stress this enough.
- and after reading a book or article write a brief summary of what you have read to ensure you have understood it. and this way you will remember it and it easier to revise.
- write well structured clear essays which address the question.
- if you can't do this, practice! do loads of past and pretend papers
- think about key themes, ideas and questions. bounce ideas off other people.
- there are only so many questions that can be asked so if you have already thought about/ wrote notes on each major theme you can't go wrong
- challenge yourself.
- think about how different themes/ periods/ people relate to one another.
