Political reform grew between 1850 and the 1860s for many reasons. There was in 1850 slight economical improvement in Britain and this fact removed the threat of a chartist revolt. The forces of urbanisation and industrialisation created a vast social change and emphasised the undemocratic nature of the British political system.
