English and Psychology Personal Statement

I feel the need to confess that I am confused about which subject to major in. I should be applying for only one subject, either English or Psychology but I don't want to restrict my options. Besides, a diverse range allows me to choose the right university course when the time comes. I trust the admissions officer will understand and appreciate my dilemma

Studying at A Level has been a liberating experience for me. By giving presentations and attending debates I've gained confidence and have started to think analytically. I hope to further develop these skills by attending university

I began Class 12 with A Level Accounting but quickly realized that it was not for me. So I gladly switched to English Literature and English Language at AS Level and haven't regretted it (much!). Literature allows you to plunge into the lives of others and look at the world through their eyes. Studying Language has been beneficial towards my creative writing efforts and has shown me the impact well chosen linguistic features have on a piece of writing. I'd love to be a teacher and inspire my students' imaginations, urging them to respect the language that has captivated me

Studying Psychology has been a worthy pursuit. It's just so fascinating. I'm applying for full field in order to be a professional and the career prospects are manifold; I could be part of an organisation's Human Resources department or a clinical therapist

Lately, I've considered working with children, which I have been doing as a volunteer at the Learning Differences Project. It specializes in the assessment and remedial teaching of children with learning difficulties, ADHD, epilepsy etc

My hobbies are reading, short story writing and web page designing. I am also a great fan of ice-skating, which will be the first thing I do when I land back on British shores! I've never had any doubts about my further education; university has always been on the horizon. I fully intend to live in Britain and become a productive member of society. So whether it's as a teacher differentiating between principal and subordinate clauses or as a psychologist treating a phobic child, I know that attending university will help unleash my potential. It's the next phase on my journey of self-discovery.
