Introduction to the Model House of Commons |

The TSR Model House of Commons is a forum where members can pitch ideas and write bills to change laws, solve problems and improve the UK. Members and parties write bills to change the laws of the UK, which are debated and voted on.
It is a democratically elected chamber (forum on TSR) and is made up of 50 MPs selected by their Parties and Party leaders. Seats are allocated following a TSR-wide 'General Election' which takes place every six months and is conducted around the principle of political Parties (and some Independent candidates).
The largest party or coalition of parties forms the TSR Government, formed of a Prime Minister and number of cabinet positions, whose responsibly it is to answer questions on their specific departments, report to the House and develop legislation within the government. The second largest party or coalition of parties is Opposition, which can have a number of shadow cabinet positions. Other parties may assign Spokesperson positions. The Speaker is responsible for everything surrounding the House of Commons and has a question thread here where anyone can get advice or have queries answered.
The main activity which occurs in the Model HoC is the writing and debate of bills which change the laws of the TSR UK.
The TSR Model Parliament was started in 2005 following the 2005 General Election in the UK. In the run up to that election a series of political parties had been set up on the forums. These parties fought each other for the votes of the forum members by writing and debating statements on topical issues. This culminated in an election on the forum, which was held to coincide with the real election, held in early May. |

The best way to get involved is to join a party! The TSR MHoC has the big 3 parties (Labour, Tories, Lib Dem) but it also has others such as the Socialist and Libertarian Parties. By joining a party, you get access to their hidden sub-forum where they draft bills, plan for elections and discuss a range of other things. Once you've joined, you can meet your party colleagues, get involved in developing bills and help your party succeed in the MHoC. Click here to join a party! The TSR Model House of Commons is currently comprised of 7 parties representing a wide variety of viewpoints and positions along the political scale. You can join a political party by clicking here and selecting the party you wish to join. Joining a party is the best way to get involved with the Model House of Commons as it allows you to get involved in the bill-writing and development process which takes part in the private sub-forums of the TSR parties. It is also the easiest route to becoming an MP. Below, you'll find a synopsis of each party and what they stand for. TSR parties often have policies which don't reflect their real-life counterparts so you may find yourself more at home here with a party you wouldn't necessarily consider in real life.

The TSR Liberal Democrats have been around since the start up of the Parliament. Though currently the fourth largest party, they are the second largest party in Government. Their current Leader is Morgsie.
The TSR Lib Dems hold that social progression, fiscal responsibility, and common sense in Government are the three tenets that any party should govern by.
Through these principles we seek to:
- Liberalise UK social policies – we will relax drug laws, allow gay marriage and scrap blood donation rules for homosexuals.
- Ensure the country's finances are kept in order, but not at the expense of future success – we will reduce tuition fees to reverse the mistakes of our counterparts in the UK Parliament, preserve spending for charities and protect public services from excessive cuts.
- Encourage sensible Government – by decommissioning the UK's unnecessary nuclear weapons programme, investing in renewable energy sources and supporting the NHS in changing to meet modern health needs.
Achievements
- Reformed the organ donation system for England and Wales to an opt-out, rather than opt-in system.
- Created a new hospital dedicated to specialist care of personnel and veterans of the UK armed forces.
- Repealed major elements of the Digital Economy Act.
- Raised the speed limit for motorways to 80 miles per hour.

The Conservatives ran in the first few elections, regularly winning a large number of MPs. The party then failed to fill any of its allocated seats after one election, shortly after the party became totally inactive and was disbanded. They Conservatives were subsequently missing from elections until the December 2007 election where the Conservative party came back in to existence, coming second with 10 seats.
The resignation of one member in January 2008 reduced this total to 9. In November 2008, the Conservatives achieved government in the General Election with 14 seats. They reached a height in May 2009, winning 19 seats with 33% of the popular vote and forming an independent minority government. Following the standing down of long-term leader Daveireland in October 2009, the party was led by Bagration. The December 2009 election saw the Conservatives fall to ten seats, but remain in government with a coalition agreement with the Centre Party and the Lib Dems as the largest partner.
In March 2010, a new leadership election was won by L i b, with Nothos/Bruce Taylor and Jammy also standing. The May 2010 general election saw the Conservatives retain their 10 seats, dropping out of the three-way coalition to form the official opposition against the coalition government of the Lib Dems (13 seats) and the Centre Party (4 seats). The current leader is Indievertigo.
Following the 14th General Election in 2011, they were renamed as the TSR Conservative and Unionist Party.

TSR Labour Party have been around since the start up of the TSR House of Commons and have taken part in every election, always having MP representation. The current leader of the Labour Party is davidmarsh01. TopHat is the party deputy leader.
The TSR Labour party believe that natural resources and key infrastructure industries should be in the hands of the people so that the many, rather than the few, can benefit. We are a secular party who believe that religion has no place in government. We strongly support civil liberties and public services such as the NHS and public libraries.
Some legislation we have been involved with:
- Created an opt-out organ donation system in order to help save lives.
- Blocked the use of antibiotics on healthy livestock to prevent the spread of antibiotic immune bacteria.
- Raised the speed limit to 80 on stretches of motorway.
- Attempted to give more power to local parliaments by removing the need for the government to approve bylaws.

The Libertarian Party of TSR was founded in 2006 to promote Libertarianism which is based on the principles of free markets, civil liberties, and limited government. Currently, the leader of the party is jesusandtequila, and the deputy leader is MacCuishy.

That is, in one line, what TSR Libertarian Party believe in. We believe that each and every adult is the sole and sovereign owner of their life and legitimately owned property; thus people should have the freedom to live in whatever manner they desire, so long as they do not infringe upon the freedom of others to do the same. Therefore, the main function of Government should be the defence of the individual against force or fraud by others. We believe in individual liberty, personal responsibility, and freedom from needless Government intervention in both social issues and economic affairs.
Recent Policies and Achievements
- Lowered the Voting Age to 16, to give more people power over who runs the country
- Reformed the Tax System - Taxing land instead of income and abolishing NI.
- Legalised Drugs and controlled their application
- Decriminalised brothels and prostitution, mamaging human trafficking and the spread of STI's
- Legalised euthanasia and controlled its application
- Opposed banning of Private schools
- Simplified the Welfare system, making it fair for all
- Stopped repressive acts telling companies when they can and cannot trade

The Socialist Party, is not a party for just our members or just for individual humans, but the party of the human race. We believe in all humans being able to be the best people they can be. We want to make sure that people are not denied the ability to be the best they can be by things like race, gender, sexuality, income or where they happen to be born. We will fight for strong, well funded public services and industries. We believe that the economy should work for us to enable us to better ourselves and all people, not for the few and just to better what the markets do or do not like. This means we will campaign for more regulation, so the economy works for all people, not just the rich. we believe in an empathatic, compassionate world, where all humans look out for and care for each other, where we dont deny healthcare or education to people for any reason; where the amount your parents earned does not stop you from being the best human you can be.

The Socialist Party were formed towards the end of the Third Parliament and first fought at the election for the Fourth Parliament. They were successful in winning 5 seats at their first try and 6 at their second. The Socialist Party voted not to have a Chief Whip. | TSR UKIP seeks to uphold, promote and champion actions that are in the best interests of the British public, with an emphasis on withdrawal from the EU. Those who follow us on TSR will notice we are, at times, a stark abdication from real life UKIP and some take issue with this – we however take pride in knowing that what is paramount for us is not our image, but our policies. We believe that ideologies are fine as policy catalysts but unless these ideals are shaped by pragmatism they are worth very little – as such, we concern ourselves more with reaching consensus on whatever issues may arise and responding as appropriate; very few of us are implacably opposed to many things – and this sets us apart from other parties. As does our membership; our members are drawn from across the political spectrum. UKIP, despite our reputation as xenophobic ignorant purveyors of idiocy we inherited from the party's previous incarnations and regimes, is now very much a home for anyone with a genuine interest in politics, a willingness to participate, and the faculty to compromise within the context of wide ranging and often polarised views.
TSR UKIP had participated in the first TSR General Election but disbanded soon after due to inactivity. However, TSR UKIP was re-established in 2010 as a result of a party consultation on a change of name by the TSR Patriotic Conservative Party founded in 2009. Despite being comfortably the smallest party in terms of both MPs and members, UKIP in recent times has been one of the most active parties with one of the highest outputs of legislation. Legislation
- Precipitated a referendum on continued membership of the EU, which was the first ever referendum on TSR.
- Attempted to reform EMA, ensuring only those that needed it got it.
- Attempted to revoke diplomatic immunity in cases of offences against the person
- Moved to redistribute international aid and set a minimum amount to be given each year, ensuring not only that we continue to help those that need it but that that help is used where it can be more effective.
- Prior to the referendum bill UKIP attempted to dilute the power of the EU by altering the importance of it's laws.

You can set up your own party in the MHoC! If you're interested in setting up your own party, post a thread in the MHoC Forum outlining your party and its aims and policies. If it gets 10 supporters and admin approval, your party will be set-up with its own forum and it will be able to contest in TSR's elections.
