Essential Hand Luggage Items

  • Passport/ID Card/Driving License
  • Tickets
  • Wallet/Purse & Money (both pounds and destination currency)
  • Clothes
  • Spare contact lenses (if long-haul flight)
  • Glasses/Sunglasses
  • Phone
  • Keys
  • Water (bought the gate side of security check)
  • Food (bought the gate side of security check)
  • Medication (100ml rule will apply for liquids but exceptions can be made, so check beforehand. Also sharps related to your medication such as EpiPens and needles for insulin injections are generally speaking permitted but again check beforehand)

Recommended But Not Essential

  • Eyemask
  • Earplugs
  • Neck pillow
  • List of items carrying in main luggage (in case of loss of baggage)

Other Things You Might Want To Take

  • Any PEDs (Personal Electronic Devices): mp3 player, laptop, camera, camcorder, games console, PDA etc.
  • Books/Magazines/Notepad/Puzzle Books/Planner

Important Information

  • Hand luggage must not be larger than 56cm (H) x 45cm (W) x 25cm (D) (22in x 17.7in x 9.8in) and that includes wheels, handles and external compartments.
  • 100ml rule - which includes but not limited to: liquids, gel, creams, pastes etc and must not be more that 100ml per container. All liquids must also be sealed in a clear resealable bag no larger than 20cm x 20cm (8in x 8in).
  • No sharps are to be carried but round bladed scissors are permitted as well as pointed bladed scissors up to 3cm (max) are also permitted. metal nail files and knitting needles are not permitted in hand luggage. But please check with the airline as there maybe further restrictions concerning sharps.
  • Check with your airline to see how many pieces of hand luggage you can bring on board. But generally speaking, it should just be the one.
  • Some airlines (mostly Ryanair) will not allow you on the aircraft with over 1 piece of hand baggage including stuff bought at duty free so don't go buying anything huge you can't fit in your main bag
