The University of Brighton is located on three main campuses in the city of Brighton. One (Grand Parade) is in the city centre, one is in Moulsecoombe just outside the city centre while the thrid is on the edge of the city near the village of Falmer and is close to Sussex University campus. It also has sites in Eastbourne too. FacilitiesLibrariesThe University of Brighton has five libraries split over its campuses and between them they have over 600,000 books, journals and audio-visual materials. There are over 1,400 computers located in libraries and computer rooms for students' use. There is also a comprehensive online library where students can search for, reserve and renew books. Falmer Falmer is the main sports campus for the University of Brighton. Eastbourne, Falmer Moulsecoomb and Grand parade all have student union shops on campus. Moulsecoomb also has a book shop where you can buy the books you need for your course. RestaurantsEach campus has at least one place where you can buy food. This ranges from sandwiches to a full cooked meal. Religious facilitiesThe University of Brighton has chaplains who are available for student or staff of all faith groups. Lectures, gatherings and activities are regularly organised to encourage people to discuss their views on relevant topics. There are chaplains regularly on all the university campuses. Moulsecoomb Steam house is a building located next to the campus and provides space for prayer, worship and personal reflection. SocialWhile the unversity itself doesn't have a huge amount with regards to nice restaurants, bars and clubs. You are in Brighton which has a huge number of bars and clubs to suit every taste. AccommodationThe University of Brighton has places for 2,008 people to live in halls each year. The halls of residence are spread over Brighton and Eastbourne. Some are catered and some are self-catered. Priority accommodation at Brighton University will be allocated to first-year undergraduates who have firmly accepted an offer. FalmerFalmer is one of the main campuses and is based just outside the outskirts of Brighton 8 minutes away from the city centre by train. There are two halls of residences located here. Paddock Fields The paddock fields accommodation is split into flats and houses with up to eight students sharing kitchen facilities. Each bedroom is en suite with all of usual expected furniture the rooms are slightly bigger that most student accommodation. There are laundry facilities on site and each room has attached parking. There is internet access provided in each room. This halls of residence provides both catered and self-catered accommodation. General. Information Tenancy- 39 weeks Number of rooms available- 469 Number of students per flat – 6-8 Price per Single room - £3,744.00 per year (self-catered) OR £4,720.50 per year (catered) Great Wilkins This accommodation is more commonly allocated to international students due to its longer tenancy. General Information Tenancy – 50 weeks Number of rooms available – 164 Number of students sharing – 3-6 Price per Single room- £4,900.00 per year (self-catered) MoulsecoombMoulsecoomb is one of the main teaching campuses for the University of Brighton but has a surprisingly small amount of accommodation. The halls are two miles away from central Brighton. Where there is good bus links and Moulsecoomb train station just a 1 minute walk away. Moulsecoomb Place Each of the flats in Moulsecoomb Place contains a number of single bedrooms, shared kitchen and washing facilities and two toilets. There is internet access and a communal laundrette. This halls of residence is catered. General information Tenancy – 39 weeks Number of rooms available – 163 Number of students sharing – 6-8 Price per single room- £4,384.00 per year VarleyThis is the largest group of halls that the University of Brighton has to offer. This group of halls is located on Coldean Lane midway between the Moulsecoomb and Falmer campuses approximately 3 miles from the centre of Brighton. There are good bus links into the centre of town. Ashdown House This is one of the few catered accommodation options at the University of Brighton. Breakfast and an evening meal are included in the price of accommodation. The bedrooms are organised into hallways with a bath/shower and toilet as well as a communal kitchen for every eight students. There are also mature student only corridors and single flats for couples available. Internet access is available in every bedroom and there is a communal laundrette. General Information Tenancy- 39 weeks Number of rooms available- 89 Number of students sharing – 8 Price per single room - £4,033.28 per year Balcoombe, Chailey and Ditchling The accommodation here has single study bedrooms with a shared bath/shower and toilet as well as a shared kitchen. There are four students sharing the bathroom facilities and eight sharing a kitchen. These rooms are the cheapest available at the University of Brighton and so are smaller than the other accommodation that you will find. There is also no internet access available in the individual rooms though there is there is a computer room where laptops can be connected to the internet. General Information Tenancy – 39 weeks Number of rooms available – 188 Number of students sharing – 4-8 Price per single room - £2,466.00 per year Framfield, Selsey, Kingston & Chalvington These halls are located in a similar area to Balcoombe, Chailey and Ditchling but are slightly more up market. The rooms are bigger and the facilities are nicer. There is internet access in each room and communal laundry facilities are available. Tenancy – 39 weeks Number of rooms available- 225 Number of students sharing – 6-8 Price per single room - £3,268.82 per year Grand ParadeThere is only one halls of residence at the Grand parade site. The site is close to the centre of Brighton with easy access both to the clubs and pubs as well as the other university campuses. Phoenix Brewery The accommodation found here is all en suite with rooms arranged into communal flats with shared kitchen and living areas. There is internet access as well as a communal laundry and unlike many of the other halls there is a large common room which can be used. General Information Tenancy- 39 weeks Number of rooms available- 298 Number of students sharing- 6-8 Price per single room - £3,778.46 per year EastbourneThere is only one halls of residence for the Eastbourne campus and it is relatively newly built. It is close to both the universities teaching facilities and the sea front and centre of Eastbourne. Welkin Halls Welkin Halls is a newly designed halls of residence which has landscaped gardens and gates on the entrance. The rooms are en suite and grouped into flats which share kitchen and living facilities. Each bedroom has a TV point but a TV licence will be required as the rooms are considered separate residences. This is a catered hall so you get breakfast and your evening meal included in the cost. There is internet available in every room and a communal laundrette. General Information Tenancy – 40 weeks Number of rooms available – 354 Number of students sharing- 4-7 Price per Single room- £4,611.21 per year Student unionUniversity of Brighton Student Union Website EnvironmentThe University of Brighton has a number of campuses which are spread over the city of Brighton as well as Eastbourne. The city of Brighton is well known for its modern and relaxing atmosphere, as well as being a student-friendly location with a world-famous social life. The campuses are sandwiched between spectacular coastal scenery and the Sussex Downs which provides the students' an amazing environment to live and work in. There are lots of interesting buildings including the Brighton Pavilion. The buildings at some of the university campuses (i.e. Moulsecoomb) aren't the most attractive, but the facilities are up to date and the buildings are light and airy. Teaching qualityBrighton University is ranked 56th in the Times university league tables 2006 and 48th in the Guardian. The 'The Sunday Times University Guide 2006' (September 2006) University League Table ranks Brighton University 56th overall in the UK. It also ranks Brighton 3rd in the 'Top Ten Modern Universities' in the UK. Brighton remains the only modern university to be named 'Sunday Times University of the Year' (1999).
