For some it's a difficult decision - how are you supposed to know what you want to do for the rest of your life when you leave college? There might be a huge variety of courses that you could choose from, at a number of universities - how do you know which is the one for you?
Here are some tips on choosing the right course:
Pick a subject area you are going to enjoy studying for three years
- it's much harder to study a subject you are bored with or find too difficult
Make sure you'll have the right qualifications for the course
- you can check entry criteria in a prospectus or on uni websites
Decide whether you want to go for a traditional or niche subject in your area of interest - at Salford Uni you can study a wide range of courses from English to Mobile and Internet Television
Speak to tutors for the course you are interested in
- find out as much as possible about modules, teaching time, opportunities for work experience, travel, support etc.
Visit some unis or join uni Facebook groups and see if you can chat to current students - they'll know best after all!
Consider a joint honours degree if you can't decide between subject areas
Take your time to do the research, it's a big decision
- but remember popular courses such as physiotherapy get filled up very quickly.
The University of Salford offers over 500 courses, and three quarters include work experience to help boost your career potential. You can also visit Salford every Wednesday on a uni tour.
But don't take our word for it. The best people to ask are our students. Which is why we have launched Playback - a video prospectus featuring our students telling you how it really is at Salford. Just pick the bits you're interested and make your own personal video.
