At Bangor University there are 4 sites for accommodation ffriddoedd, Normal, College road and St Mary's. the accommodation is situated within close proximity to different departments so that students won't ave to travel too far to their lectures/practicals/seminars/tutorials.

Ffriddoedd Site

on the Ffriddoedd site you will find the following buildings:

Ffridd site has been under a lot of rennovation for the past 2 years with the majority of it being a building site whilst a new £35million project was being completed to build new halls and create a student village. The halls are all self catered but food can be bought from Bart Uno as they have breakfast lunch and dinne menus as well as some special offers on various nights such as pizza and a pint for £4.50.this is only an example its not a current offer


the ffriddoedd site contains the maes glas sports centre which is for university student and public use, the facilities in the sports centre are vast and will cater for the needs of students with 3 Gyms (cardio vascular room, weights room, women only gym), 3 sports halls, 4 squash courts, 6 tennis courts and various other soutside courts as well as football/rugby/hockey pitches. with student discounts available saving you an absolute fortune.


Alaw, Idwal, Peris, Braint, Enlli, Adda, Llanddwyn, Crafnant, Ffraw, Glaslyn and Gwynant are all new halls up on the ffriddoedd site, they have all just been opened in the past year or will be opening in september 2009. the other buildings on ffridd site (other than Neuadd Reichel) are less than 20 years old and have all the modern facilities with internet and en suites and no mroe than 8 people to a kitchen.

Soon to come to Ffridd site will be a SHop, another laundrette, 2 common rooms and a conference room.

Normal Site

Normal site is situated on the banks of the Menai Strait, it houses the education department and sports departments.

the following accommodation can be found on the Normal Site


The Following buildings can be found on Normal Site:

  • Trefenai
  • Cilgwyn
  • Gym and Sports Hall
  • Normal Site Library
  • Meirion
  • Dinas
  • Y wern

There are computers on site and can be found in the Library and George Building. the geurge building has 24 hour access so it is possible for students to get access to the computer and the internet 24 hours a day 7 days a week, to gain access to the computing facilities you will need to have your Library/NUS card, Details of the Normal site computer rooms can be found here

Normal site has fantastic views of the Menai Strait and looking over to Angelsey, you aare also in the hub of the sports activities that occur within the university as the majority of the facilities are on or close to Normal Site.


College Road Site

College Road site is situated down the road from the Main Arts building and at the Top of Love Lane. This is the main site for those that are fluent welsh speakers or have welsh as their first language. not all the accommodation here is for the welsh speaking students non welsh students are welcomed. The Majority of this accommodation is Catered.

the accommodation on the College Road Site are:

  • JMJ (John Morris Jones) - Catered Welsh speaking Halls of Residence which also have international student accomodation in the Basement areas

Previously Rathbone and Rathbone Flats were avaiable for accommodation but with the Students' Union building being demolished in the summer of 2010 Rathbone is currently being rennovated to house an interim Students' Union while the new one is going to be erected at the site of the current Students' Union.


the accommodation is within close proximity to the city center and the main university buildings.

St Mary's Site

St Mary's site is very small situated on the hillside overlooking the city, it has only 2 buildings on the site:


St Mary's site accommodation in 2009-2010 is "quiet" accommodation for post graduate students and those people who wish to live in the quieter halls. St Mary's is no longer open for general accommodation but will be open for families as there are family rooms in the building.

Accommodation policy

Bangor University have a very long Accommodation policy, they do expect you to adhere to it. Wardens will be there for any queries you may have about the accommodation policies and they will try to enforce it, however you do get the occasional nice warden that will turn a blind eye.

Facilities

The bare minimum of the facilities you will get in your room / on site are as follows:

  • Bed
  • Desk/chair
  • Bookshelf
  • Wardrobe
  • Waste bin
  • Laundrette on Site
  • Senior Wardens and Wardens resident on Site


other accommodation may have other features such as:

  • internet connection in room
  • En-suite toilet and shower room
  • Wireless internet available in Coffee shop on site


the number of students to a kitchen can vary from around 8 to 16 people , this depends on many factors such as whether you are catered or self catered and which accommodation you are living in. in the newer accommodation on the Ffriddoedd site there are 8 people to a kitchen.

each kitchen has the following:

  • Cooker
  • Microwave
  • Fridge/freezer
  • Toaster
  • Kettle

Number of appliances inthe kitchen will vary Dependant upon the number of people living in the accommodation and using the facilities.

Washing Facilities vary depending on the accommodation, the number sharing a bathroom can vary from 1 - 6.

Friddeoedd site has en-suites in all its new accommodation, however there are only showers.The Ffriddoedd older accommodation has baths and showers but they are shared.

All other sites have Baths, showers and shared toilets.


Communal and shared areas are cleaned daily, if you have en-suite you will need to clean it yourself.

Applying for Accommodation

To Apply for accommodation at Bangor this will usually be around the middle of June and you will receive a letter from the halls office with details of how to apply for accommodation. Don't get worried if you do not hear anything before June, this is quite normal.

Private sector

there is a lot of private accommodation in Bangor. to apply for private accommodation it can be done with university help. The student services team have lists of accommodation that is available for rent, they provide assistance with dealing with landlords/ladies and give you health and safety information.
