Why to Study Further Education

There are many reasons why people choose to go into Further Education. For some people this could be because they wish to go to university and view their options from there; others may want the extra qualifications to help them with a specific career; others may simply feel that, at 16, they aren’t ready to enter the world of full time work. At the same time, further education isn’t for everyone. Some people may find education too rigid a structure for them; some just may not suit the academic environment and feel that hitting the job market early would be better for them.

Now that you are sitting, or are about to sit, your GCSEs, this is a decision you have to consider. Are you ready to go straight into the 9-5 world of work that your parents, guardians and relatives complain about? Obviously it can give you financial freedom, independence and a maturity that those who stay on after their GCSEs maybe lack, but further education has it’s obvious benefits for those that are suited to what is has to offer.

Further Education offers those academic minded students the ability to continue to excel in whatever discipline (or disciplines) they like the best and are the best at; while an increasing number of vocational courses and apprenticeship opportunities can offer other students the chance to gain practical skills that can give them an advantage in a competitive job market.

The main thing to remember is that it’s your decision. If you choose not to study further education, then you can always go back to it later; and if you choose to study, then you can catch up on the experience in the job market when you’re ready to enter it. Don’t let anyone else, friends or family, influence your decision. Only you know what’s right for you.
