Loughborough University

About

Generally all first year students can be accomodated. Applying early when the application process opens and by the deadline can guarantee you a room in halls.

How/when to apply for accommodation

You must apply online.

The online application process starts in June for new first year undergraduate students holding conditional offers. Be aware that once the system opens many people will find themselves not being able to access their online system, likewise thier accomodation phone line will be clogged up. Even when you get through you are generally advised to keep trying online.

Loughborough's accomodation system operates with two options:

  • To choose a specific hall in which case you will be guranteed a specific room for that hall.
  • Set preferences, for a hall within West Park, Village or East Park and whether you wish to be catered or self-catered. With preferences, you cannot pick a specific hall. On results day if you are firmed into Loughborough University, you will be told of the hall that you have been assigned by email (generally closest to your first preference). If you are unhappy of this preference, you can telephone them and be put on a waiting list to change but no gurantees and the accomodation offer that you have been assigned has a time limit for accpetance before it is re-assigned to someone else.

Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh (Q25)

What the University has to say

Accommodation in halls is allocated fairly, according to established criteria which includes year of study, age and geographical distance from the University. It is very important that potential students apply as early as possible for a room in our halls as demand is traditionally very high. QMU is committed to providing a safe and comfortable environment that is easily accessible for students with disabilities. If you have a disability of any kind and are thinking of applying to live in the halls, it is essential that the Accommodation Office is made fully aware in plenty of time of anything that may be required to ensure that your room is accessible or equipped as necessary for your stay. Each room will be equipped with an en-suite shower and toilet, IT connections and much, much more. Although the rooms are self catered a range of catering packages are available. If you chose to live off-campus, The Student Accommodation Office can provide helpful information and advice on how and where to source private rental accommodation in the surrounding area.

How/when to apply for accommodation

You will automatically be sent an accommodation pack when you receive an unconditional offer from QMU. This pack includes an application form and information on the halls of residence. If you do not receive this information for any reason, the application can be printed from the accommodation website. You should complete the application form as soon as possible and return it to us either by post or fax. If you do not return the application form, we will assume you do not require accommodation. Deadline for forms is 31st August. Rooms are only allocated when offers are firm unconditional, or become unconditional (ie after results day).
