Are you a science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) student, full of fascinating and innovative ideas? Are you studying at a UK university or college of higher education? Do you want to win £25,000?

If so, this is your time to shine - and hurry, there isn't much time to go! In association with Babcock International Group, The Telegraph has launched the UK STEM Awards, and they are looking for students like you. Applications close on April 27, so if you're interested read on and apply as soon as you can. It's not too late to apply!

The competition is to create an innovative solution to a challenge posed within one of the following STEM industries: defence, automotive, pharmaceuticals, environment and construction. The winner will win a prize of £25,000, as well as a bespoke mentoring programme with a senior engineer at Babcock International Group.

These challenges have been chosen by the industry leaders – GlaxoSmithKline, McLaren, Atkins, Semta and BAE Systems – and they want to see the most inspired, clever and original solutions to their briefs, based on the most crucial questions posed in their industries today. UK STEM Awards logo

You can also propose your own challenge, and you can enter as an individual or as part of a team. Whether you decide to go it alone or answer to the industry leaders’ briefs, a panel of expert judges will be looking out for these criteria:

  • Innovation
How innovative is it? (25 points)
  • Relevance to business
How financially viable is it, etc? (25 points)
  • Benefit to society and the environment
How environmentally friendly is the product/concept and how beneficial will it be to society as a whole? (50 points)
