what is diffusion?
the movement of molecules from a high concentration to a low concentration
1 of 16
what is taken in and given out during respiration?
oxygen in, and water and co2 out.
2 of 16
what is active transport?
the movement of molecules from a low concentration to a high concentration.
3 of 16
what is needed for active transport to happen?
energy, therefore a cell doing a lot of active transport has a lot of mitochondria
4 of 16
when molecules moves in and out of cells, what do they diffuse across?
a partially permeable membrane
5 of 16
what food molecule is absorbed into the blood by diffusion?
glucose
6 of 16
what does the large instestine absorb into the blood?
water molecules
7 of 16
what diffuses into plant cells? what for?
CO2 for photosynthesis
8 of 16
what type of solutions are there?
isotonic, hypotonic and hypertonic
9 of 16
what is an isotonic solution in diffusion?
when there is equal amounts of water going in and out of the cell
10 of 16
what is a hypertonic solution in diffusion?
when there is water moving out of the cell but not into the cell(plant cell becomes flaccid and animal cell becomes shrivelled)
11 of 16
what is a hypotonic solution in diffusion?
when there is only water going into the cell( a plant cell becomes tergid and an animal cell bursts)
12 of 16
The ----- in the intestine are ------ to have a -----------------
villi, folded, larger surface area
13 of 16
how thin are there cell walls?
1 cell thick
14 of 16
why?
so that diffusion happens quicker
15 of 16
what are the steps of mitosis?
the dna duplicates itself, the cells align down the center o the cell and the cell splits giving two genetically identical cells.
