GCSE physics 2 revision flashcards!

HideShow resource information
Name 3 sources of background radiation
cosmic rays, rocks, food
1 of 9
what increases a persons dose of radiation?
high altitudes, work underground, radiographers
2 of 9
whats radioactive decay?
its a totally random process, give off radiation from their nucleus
3 of 9
2 conditions needed for nucleur fusion
high temperature, high pressure
4 of 9
what does a curve and straight horizontal line show on a distance time graph?
curve- increasing acceleration straight horizontal line- stopped
5 of 9
how is a protostar formed?
gas and dust pulled in by gravitational forces
6 of 9
in what part of a big stars life cycle are heavier elements than iron made?
in a supernova explosion
7 of 9
why is nucleur fission a chain reaction?
because when the 2 smaller nucleus' are ceated, 3 neutrons are also given off, these nuteurons go onto hitting other big nucleus' these get split and it continues so on
8 of 9
what two forces balance each other out in a main sequence star?
inward=gravitational force outward
