What are the 3 types of plastic?
Thermoplastic, thermosetting plastic and elastomers

What are the general properties of plastic?
Good electric and thermal insulators, good strength to weight ratio and generally have a good atmospheric and chemical corrosion resistance

What are the thermoplastic examples?
ABS, PP (polypropylene) and LDPE

What are the thermoset examples?
Epoxy resin, melamine formaldehyde and urea formaldehyde

What are the properties of thermoplastics?
Can be repeatedly reheated and remoulded

What are the properties of thermosets?
They undergo a chemical change that results in a permanent rigidity

What are the properties of elastomers?
Polymers that have good elasticity - they return to their original shape

What are the properties of ABS?
High impact strength, good toughness + strength, scratch resistant and lightweight+durable

What are the properties of Polypropylene?
Lightweight, food safe, good impact resistance, good chemical resistance

What are the properties of LDPE?
Low density, low stiffness, low rigidity and good chemical resistance

What are the properties of Epoxy resin?
High strength when reinforced with fibres to make GRP. Good chemical and wear resistance

What are the properties of Melamine formaldehyde?
Rigid, good strength + hardness. Scratch resistant and can be coloured

What are the properties of Urea Formaldehyde?
Rigid, hard, good strength, brittle, heat resistant and good electrical conductor
