1.1 These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") apply to your use of The Student Room ("TSR") and The Uni Guide ("TUG") websites, products, apps and services (together, the "Websites"). These Terms apply to all users, whether a guest, member, or other user (collectively referred to as "Users").
1.2 Our Websites are owned by The Student Room Group Limited (“we”, “us” or “our"). Our company number is 4666380. Our registered office is Floor 6, Tower Point, 44 North Rd, Brighton BN1 1YR.
1.3 These Terms explain how our Websites work. Please read them to understand what you can do with the content on our Websites (“Content”); what we can do with things you post; and your rights and responsibilities in using our Websites.
1.4 By using the Websites, you agree to these Terms. If you do not accept them, you should stop using the Websites immediately.
1.5 We may update these Terms at any time. Please check this page regularly, as continued use of the Websites indicates acceptance of any changes.
2. Ownership and intellectual property
2.1 The Content on our Websites belongs to us (or our licensors) and is subject to copyright. Users may retrieve, display, and print Content for personal, non-commercial use only.
2.2 You may not reproduce, distribute, or commercially exploit any Content without prior written consent from us.
2.3 No part of our Websites or their Content may be distributed, scraped, copied, extracted, or otherwise used for any purpose without our express written permission or a licence to do so from us (or, where applicable, our licensors). 2.4 If you print off, copy, download, share, or repost any part of our Websites in breach of these Terms, your right to use our Websites will cease immediately and you must, at our option, return or destroy any copies of the materials you have made (except that you are permitted to print off a copy of these Terms).
2.5 You shall not conduct, facilitate, authorise, or permit any text or data mining or web scraping in relation to our Websites for any purpose, including but not limited to the development, training, fine-tuning or validation of AI systems or models. This includes using (or permitting, authorising or attempting the use of):
a. Any “robot,” “bot,” “spider,” “scraper,” or other automated device, program, tool, algorithm, code, process, or methodology to access, obtain, copy, monitor, or republish any portion of our Websites or any data, content, information, or services accessed via them.
b. Any automated analytical technique aimed at analysing text and data in digital form to generate information or to develop, train, fine-tune, or validate AI systems or models, including (but not limited to) deriving patterns, trends, or correlations.
2.6 The provisions in this section are an express reservation of our rights in this regard, including for the purposes of Article 4(3) of the Digital Copyright Directive ((EU) 2019/790).
2.7 The restrictions in this section will not apply to the extent that we are unable to exclude or limit text or data mining or web scraping by contract under the laws that apply to us.
3. User conduct
3.1 We provide the functionality for Users to add their own content (“User Content”) to our Websites. Any User Content you post or transmit to the Websites:

3.2 Users retain ownership of any User Content they post. However, by posting, you grant us a permanent, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to use, modify, and distribute your content.
3.3 We are not liable for any User Content, which is the opinion of the person posting only and in no way reflects our opinions or attitudes.
3.4 While we respect freedom of expression, users must not post User Content that is in breach of our community guidelines, including but not limited to:

User Content that is illegal

User Content that causes harm or offence to other people in containing extremist views, appearing to incite or promote terrorist activities, or in being threatening, defamatory, obscene, offensive, pornographic, abusive, discriminatory, menacing or liable to incite racial hatred

User Content that encourages dangerous online “challenges”, encourages or assists suicide (or attempted suicide) or serious self-harm.

User Content that gives instructions for acts of violence against people or animals.

User Content that contains personal information

User Content that is in breach of confidence, in breach of another’s right to privacy or infringes another’s intellectual property right
3.5 Users must not misuse or attempt to damage the Websites by introducing viruses or engaging in hacking. Users must not attempt unauthorised access to the Websites or related systems.
4. Moderation of User Content
4.1 We can edit, remove or restrict access to User Content at any time. We are not responsible for any loss of User Content.
4.2 We will remove all illegal content when we become aware of it, and minimise the time it is present on our Websites.
4.3 We will review User Content using both automated and human moderation procedures.
4.4 Private messages (PMs) flagged for violations by either automated systems or recipients may be reviewed by us in line with our community guidelines.
5. Registration and accounts
5.1 Users under 13 are not permitted to register on the Websites.
5.2 Each account is for individual use only. Users must not share login details, except with our express permission. For example, we might permit a university’s official account to be used by multiple members of staff at that university.
5.3 We may suspend or terminate accounts at any time without prior notice if a user breaches these Terms.
6. Photo and video consent for promotional use
6.1 When you take part in video content created for our promotional use, we will seek your informed consent. We will do this by asking you to sign a form before the project is undertaken. For students under 18, consent from a parent or guardian will also be required.
6.2 We store images, video, testimonials and any related information on secure servers. Such images, video, testimonials and other statements will be used for marketing, publicity and general communications across a range of media. These include The Student Room website, The Uni Guide website, TSR Matters and company social media channels.
6.3 We will usually keep audio-visual material in our library for no longer than seven years. However, we reserve the right to store images or videos of particular importance or value for a longer period.
6.4 For the creation of content such as that defined in section 6.2, we will specify within a brief whether vouchers will be made available to those taking part and, if so, the value of those.
6.5 You can ask us to remove shared content in which you are featured from our channels (such as our social media accounts and marketing materials). Such requests should be submitted to [email protected]. We will take reasonable steps to remove content, but cannot guarantee it will be entirely removed.
7. Diggory - the AI Uni Coach
7.1 Diggory - the AI Uni Coach (the "AI Uni Coach") is a research tool powered by AI technology. It is designed to help Users in researching UK university courses. The AI Uni Coach is provided to you free of charge for your own personal and non-commercial use only.
7.2 The functionality of the AI Uni Coach is based on a developing technology. It may, at times, provide information that is inaccurate. We encourage you to verify any information provided by the AI Uni Coach before taking any action or making any decisions based on the information received. We assume no responsibility or guarantee for the accuracy or completeness of the information provided.
7.3 AI Uni Coach conversations may be reviewed by our staff to improve results. Do not share in your conversation through the AI Uni Coach any personal information that is not useful for your enquiry. All data is processed in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
7.4 By using the AI Uni Coach, Users agree:

not to post, send or share defamatory, offensive, intimidating, illegal, racist, discriminatory, obscene or inappropriate content in any form through the AI Uni Coach

not to use the AI Uni Coach to conduct illegal or immoral activities

not to attempt to compromise the security of the AI Uni Coach or access confidential information related to the Websites

not to copy, distribute, modify, reverse engineer, decompile or attempt to extract the source code of the AI Uni Coach or any part that composes it
7.5 We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the AI Uni Coach or its functionality at any time without prior notice.
7.6 We assume no liability for any loss, damage, or harm resulting from reliance on information provided by the AI Uni Coach. The AI Uni Coach is not a substitute for professional advice or comprehensive research.
8. Privacy and data protection
8.1 The use of personal data is governed by our Privacy Policy. By using the Websites, you consent to the collection and use of your data as outlined in the Privacy Policy.
8.2 The Websites use cookies. Details on how we use cookies are available in our Cookie Policy.
9. Links to and from other websites
9.1 The Websites may contain links to third-party websites. We are not responsible for their content or policies.
9.2 Some links may be affiliate links, meaning we may earn a commission if you purchase through them. This does not influence our content decisions.
9.3 If you link to our Website you must follow these Terms and any relevant laws. You must not pretend to be us, or suggest you're endorsed by us, or connected to us. You must not link to us from content that could be offensive.
10. Making a complaint
10.1 We are committed to handling any complaints about our service consistently, fairly, and with transparency. In order to achieve this, we have a defined complaints procedure.
11. Liability and disclaimers
11.1 The Websites are provided "as is." We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free access.
11.2 To the fullest extent permitted by law, We are not liable for:

- Damage resulting from reliance on Content on our Websites

12. Governing law and disputes
12.1 If any parts of these Terms are found to be invalid, void or unenforceable it will be considered to be separate from the rest of these Terms, which will still apply.

13.2 Continued use of the Websites after changes indicates acceptance of the updated Terms.
