Welcome to the Health Forum Guidelines

Due to the sensitive nature at times within these forums, we have provided some extra guidance for posting within the Health forums (including sexual and mental health).

Health advice

As the information on site has not been given by a health professional, please remember that the forum is for advice and suggestions- diagnosis and recommendations may not be reliable (and we are all individuals so react differently to illness and medications) so please always be sure to go and see your GP, call 111 or go to A&E if you have a medical concern!

Suicide and self harm threads

We have a Peer Support Volunteer team on the site who help support those who have posted that they are feeling suicidal or thinking of harming themselves. Sometimes they will move your thread into the private PSV forum so they can respond to you and also to prevent others from being triggered or upset by the thread.

If you are feeling suicidal and would like to speak to one of our PSV team about where to seek help please contact any of the below team members:

Interrobang

Deyesy

shadowdweller

ParadoxSocks

Paracosm

chelseadagg3r

Charlotte's Web

Alternatively, the Samaritans can be contacted on 116 123 and they are professionals who listen and don't judge.

Insensitive posts in self harm/suicide threads

Due to the extremely sensitive nature of these threads, posts which encourage members to commit suicide, self harm, or otherwise give information/instructions about how to commit suicide or self harm are not acceptable on the site. Similarly, posts insulting, berating, victim blaming or being insensitive will also not be tolerated.

What types of conversation can I find in the Health forum?

Anything and everything related to health! Whether anyone else has the same problem as you, tips on how to get healthy, advice on dealing with a health condition...If you have a question or some advice to give then join the discussion or start a thread of your own! To ask questions about mental or sexual health or to get involved in discussions, visit the dedicated forums here:

Mental health: https://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=659
Sexual health: https://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=338

I would like to start a society in Health for people with similar medical issues- how would I go about doing this?

We currently have some fantastic societies such as the M.E. society thread (see below for link)- if you want to start a society of your own to meet people with similar health conditions, all you need to do is set up a thread as normal with info on what the society will be all about and simply alert a member of the Community Team or Support Team and we can highlight the thread for you

Got any other questions?

Our lovely Support Team are about to help with any questions you might have!
