Whether it's the way we look, the way we act around other people or how good or bad something is in our life, low self-esteem has affected us all. So how do we deal and manage with low self esteem? Get an amazing high paid job, have a great body and be extremely popular? Definitely not.
Self-esteem comes down to respecting and appreciating you for who you are. You need to focus on your strengths and weaknesses and acknowledge how you deal with these on a day to day basis. Here are five ways to manage low self-esteem:
1. Be your own best friend
Firstly, you should always look out for number one...you. However much you think other people or things make you happy, you have to enjoy spending time by yourself and working on what you enjoy. Reflect and take some time to discover more about your personality, what hobbies and interests do you enjoy. Being your own best friend means you don't judge yourself, you love everything about you and you should never put yourself down; I'm sure you're pretty amazing anyway!
2. Realise your triggers
Managing your self-esteem doesn't have to be a chore, one of the first steps into managing low self-esteem is to realise what makes you feel the way you do. Notice the things that really affect you, whether you're frustrated, annoyed etc. focus on what it is that makes you tick. Once you know what it is you can address each of the points separately and find ways to overcome them.

3. Don't beat yourself up when you make a mistake
We all make mistakes in life, however big or small the mistake is you will get through it. Keep your chin up and do not beat yourself up about it. Life is a lesson anyway so if you mess up, you learn from it and move on it's as simple as that. Even if you make the same mistake again you take everything you've learned before and focus on doing something different.
4. Don't compare yourself to others
You need to stay strong and love yourself for who you are. One of the most important things to do when managing low self-esteem is to not compare yourself to others; you may already be in a negative mindset and will most likely find bad things to say about yourself, remember though, everyone is great at something you just need to find out what your strengths are.
5. Re-align the positives
Now's the time to re-align all the positives in your life. Write down a list of 10 or more things that you love about yourself, after you do this write about the great things around you. Here are just a few things that I love about me:
- My ability to make people laugh
- My hair
- My laugh
- My musical ability
- My spontaneity
Now it's your turn - write down a few things that you love about yourself.
Managing your self-esteem often takes time but you just need to be patient, after all, if you make peace with the mirror you will see your reflection change.
