The Republic of Indonesia [Indonesia] is the fourth most populous country in the world, after China, India and the US, making it the world's most populous Muslim-majority nation. Indonesia is an ex Dutch colony gaining independence in December 1949. It consists of an archipelago of over 17,000 islands the largest being Java, Sumatra and Borneo. Indonesia is also contained within the ring of fire and contains the most volcanoes of any country in the world, most notably Krakatoa. It is one of the two countries native to orangutans the other being Malaysia, it also has the second highest number of endemic species with almost 40% of its mammals being endemic to Indonesia. However due to high amounts of industrialisation and growth due to its large population some of these mammals are under threat. Indonesia is the largest economy in southeast asia and a member of G20, Indonesia has many natural resources such as oil, gas, copper and gold.
