Now, to start us off - the biggest differences are immediately evident. In one corner we have Huawei’s brand new Android-based offering in the Honor View 20 and in the other, we have the well-established iPhone series’ latest entry in the iPhone XR. By nature, this comparison will end up a little more polarised than some of our other features, as Apple tends to do its own thing with its phone releases. Still, there are some key things to note about each.

Battery life - Honor View 20 vs iPhone XR

When it comes to the question of which of these devices will last you longer through everyday use, the odds are heavily in favour of the Honor View 20, with its 4000 mAh capacity battery, over the iPhone’s somewhat paltry 2942 mAh. This means that you’ll be getting potentially up to two days worth of battery life out of a full charge.

That said, the Honor View 20 lacks the wireless charging that the iPhone XR offers, which can be a valuable tool in keeping your device alive while you’re at work or positioned near a wireless charger. The iPhone XR also offers a fast boost charge mode (which you’ll need a separate charger for), which can get your phone back to a full charge in minutes rather than hours.

Winner - Honor View 20 for battery life, iPhone XR for charging options

Camera - Honor View 20 vs iPhone XR

The options here are clear - the Honor View 20 boasts a much higher quality camera (in both front and rear varieties), with features such as face detection, a maximum image resolution of 8000 x 6000 pixels, and video recording up to 3840x2160 at 30 fps. It’s a stellar bit of tech for on-the-go photography and ends up looking especially slick as the front facing camera foregoes the ‘notch’ of the iPhone XR and instead opts for a new ‘pinhole camera’ style, minimising the screen interruption.

In contrast, the iPhone XR is certainly not a bad option for photography and point-and-shoot shots, but lacks the depth that the Honor View 20 offers, as well as having a more limited amount of options.

In-hand Feel - Honor View 20 vs iPhone XR

There are a couple of notable differences in terms of in-hand feel for these two handsets. The iPhone XR is smaller, albeit only slightly, but manages to weigh significantly more than the Honor View 20 - specifically 14 grams more. The build quality does feel solid, sturdy and smooth, which creates a lovely experience overall.

That said, the Honor View 20 is a larger device as well as beiing lighter while managing to maintain an impressively high build quality and sits super comfortably in the hand. There’s not much in this race, but for the money you’ll spend, you may end up with a slightly better experience with the Honor View 20.

Screen - Honor View 20 vs iPhone XR

The screen is another area that will be immediately different to anyone weighing up their choices between these two phones. The Honor View 20 features an entirely frameless, 2.5D curved glass screen, which creates a gorgeous effect no matter what app or program you’re using. The Honor View 20’s ‘pinhole camera’ design is also striking, almost eliminating the need for a ‘notch’ as seen on the iPhone’s design. The Honor View 20 also offers a higher resolution and more pixels-per-inch when compared to the iPhone XR, meaning it’s all around the better option.

The WOW Factor - Honor View 20 vs iPhone XR

Now here’s the thing - when it comes to Android vs. Apple, it’s going to be a real battle to manage to get a loyal Android user to take interest in a shiny new iPhone and vice versa. Keep that in mind when choosing between these two devices, as if you’ve been a dedicated iPhone user for the last decade, the XR (despite the things it lacks) may be the more exciting option for you.

On the flip side, the Honor View 20 is the newest smartphone on the market, it’s the best answer to the problem of the ‘notch’ we’ve seen so far and it’s packing a massive punch when it comes to power, battery life and camera quality. Different things will ‘wow’ different people and it will be hard to disappoint with either of these options.

Final Verdict - Honor View 20 vs iPhone XR

As previously mentioned, diehard iPhone fans and diehard Android buyers will not be easily swayed to the other side of the divide. That said, the Honor View 20 makes a staggeringly good case for jumping the fence, perhaps the best in years. Needless to say, whatever phone you’ve been using up until now, if you’re in the market for a brand new device, you’re going to want to take a look at the Honor View 20. It’s looking to be one of this year’s absolute best.
