Date and time of the AQA A-level Sociology Paper 1 exam

AQA A-level Sociology Paper 1 (7192/1) is on the morning of Wednesday 22nd May 2019. Most exam centres will start the exam at 9.00am, but check with yours in advance as centres can start exams by up to 30 minutes earlier or later than this time. Most exam centres will tell you to arrive at least 10 minutes before the exam starts.

What to expect from AQA A-level Sociology Paper 1

The paper title is AQA A-level Sociology Paper 1: Education with Theory and Methods and the paper lasts for two hours.

There are 80 marks available in this paper, and it makes up a third of your AQA A-level Sociology exam. AQA A-level Sociology Papers 2 and 3 make up the other two-thirds of the exam.

AQA A-level Sociology students can achieve grades A* to E.

Make sure you always know the structure of the paper you are sitting. Read the instructions on the paper thoroughly before you start.

There are three sections: education, which contains short answer and extended writing questions with 50 marks available in total, methods in context, with contains an extended writing question for 20 marks, and theory and methods, which contains an extended writing question for 10 marks.

Read each question carefully before you start to answer it. You should answer every question.

The marks for each question are shown in brackets – use this as a guide as to how much time to spend on each question.

Questions carrying 10 marks or more should be answered in continuous prose. In these questions you will be marked on your ability to use good English, organise information clearly and use specialist vocabulary where appropriate.

Do all rough work in your answer book. Cross through any work you do not want to be marked.

Remember to check your work if you have time at the end.

For A-level Sociology revision, TSR member Laya_ says: “I would definitely not skip any theories, learn them all because you can use them as criticisms to embed into your essay which will get you the highest marks! Depending on the question of course but more or less they are always useful to speak of.”

And CoffeeAndPolitics says, for 30 mark questions, in the conclusion you should “answer the question and give your view backed up with sociological studies/perspective.”

A-level results day 2019

If you’re taking A-level exams this year, results day is on Thursday, 15 August.

You will be able to collect your AS or A-level results any time after 6am on results day – the time they're released by the exam boards – as long as your school or college is open.
