It was a long and entertaining journey, but you got there in the end :gthumb:

I recently stole your use of \begin{aligned} which is a lot less tempremental than \begin{align*}, which I was previously using :smile:

I feel accomplished, even though I've used LaTeX successfully in the past. Meh I'll blame it on my tablet :h:

Ah nice. :biggrin:

align*\texttt{align*} works funny here on TSR;

whereas aligned\texttt{aligned} works wonders;

and it's slightly annoying because I write my documents on TeXworks where I need to use align* so I keep switching between the two off and on TSR :angry:

Yesterday's Solution

The topic of the day is: Rationalising Surds :smile:
Here's a few questions to get practising :work:
Rationalise the following:
a) 57\frac{5}{\sqrt7}

b) 14+722+3\frac{14+7\sqrt2}{2+\sqrt3}

c) 7+3551317\frac{\sqrt{7}+3\sqrt{5}}{5\sqrt{13}-\sqrt{17}}

This question is non calculator :yep:
As always, please keep all solutions in spoilers :smile:
Also, apologies for how late the question is today :colondollar:

This question is absurd :w00t:

Spend ages on your question before realising the 2015 turned into a 2005 :colonhash:

(Last off topic post I promise :smile:)

I'm also used to align* which is why I stuck with it until I saw your use of aligned. You can get align* to work on TSR but you have to use \displaystyle with a line break after it (no idea why) and even then it doesn't always work if your spacing is not correct:

Yes

Sorry that was a typo. In the hint I wrote "2015 = 1003 + 1002" and then I realised... :colondollar:

Lol strangely my knowledge of hyperbolic functions helped greatly with that questions and saved me *some* time.

Hmm... I think it's because \displaystyle puts everything after it into 'math mode' whereas aligned does that automatically? For example, I just tested and you don't need \displaystyle because putting $ signs at the beginning and end of your code [i.e. $\begin{align*} .... \end{align*}$ ], you achieve the exact same result + the centering trait which is what align* usually comes with.
Can I be tagged please, this is a really good thread :smile:

Damn it.
Do you have to use the part =a/3 to find answer. I think it's because I done it normally?
