How do I find different forums?

You can find forums by holding your mouse over the categories on the bar at the top of the screen. You can also find a list of all the forums we have here.
What are watched forums and where can I find them?

Watched threads are threads that you have posted in, are following, or both. You can find them by hovering over your username in the upper right-hand side of the screen, and clicking 'Watched Threads'. You can also use the link here.
What are bookmarks? How can I edit them?

Bookmarks are a quick way to navigate to your favourite forums and threads, or anything else on site. Think of them like bookmarks in your internet browser - they make it easy to get to whatever you add bookmarks for!

You can edit them using the 'Edit' button in the upper-right of the bookmarks bar, using the dropdown for your username, or by clicking here.
Where can I find a sub-forum for xyz?

You can find forums by holding your mouse over the categories on the bar at the top of the screen. You can also find a list of all the forums we have here. If you can't see a sub-forum for something you think deserves one, you can post a thread in feedback and suggestions to recommend it!
Where can I talk to people applying to the same uni/for the same course?

You can find all of our university forums here - the universities are sorted by region in the UK, or you can search for the one you're looking for. Similarly, all our university course forums can be found here, along with some sections for general discussion, and for posting surveys and research questions.
What’s the difference between a thread and a forum?

A thread is a topic of discussion, that holds a number of posts - this guide is a thread, for instance! A forum, on the other hand, is a section of the site that holds a number of related threads. For example, this guide is posted in the welcome lounge forum. You may see the terms forum and section being used interchangeably - these mean the same thing when it comes to TSR.
How do I find the threads I started?

You can find the threads you've started in two ways; either via the dropdown from your username in the upper-right of the screen, or by hovering over your username to the left of a post you've made. If you're opting for the first option, go to 'My Profile', open the 'My Stats' tab, and click 'All threads started by username'. If you're opting for the second option, hover over your username next to a post, click 'My Profile', and repeat the same steps.

What is reputation?

The Reputation system on The Student Room enables members to give and receive reputation points for good posts or to thank a member for another reason. This can be done via two methods; personal reputation and post rating reputation.

The intention of personal reputation is to thank or acknowledge a specific member for something they have done, rather than a post they may have made. You can only leave positive personal reputations. You may also leave a comment when giving personal reputation. To give personal reputation, you simply need to navigate to your chosen user's profile and select the 'Give Rep' icon. You will then be presented with a comments box to leave your message.

When browsing the forum, you will notice that you have the ability to give a 'thumbs up' to individual posts, also known as a post rating. Once you have rated a post, your choice will be highlighted in green. Post ratings will give also indicate how many times a post has been rated by other members.

Each user will have their own reputation level, based on the number of ratings and personal reputations they've received. Your reputation level determines how much your rep is worth when giving it to other members.

How do I find the TSR glossary?

You can find the TSR Glossary here. It lists all the common acronyms and terms used across the site - if you spot something you don't understand and can't find it there, just ask and we'll get it updated for you!
I don’t understand some TSR Slang, how do I find out what it means?

Sounds like you need the TSR Glossary! You can find it here. It lists all the common acronyms and terms used across the site - if you spot something you don't understand and can't find it there, just ask and we'll get it updated for you.
How do I block a user?

Sometimes you'll come across a user who you just don't get on with, or whose posts you don't want to see. You should always report anything rule-breaking, but blocking a user is also an option too! Here on TSR we call it an 'Ignore List', and you can find it by hovering over your username in the upper-right hand side of the screen, clicking 'My Followers' and then 'My Ignore List'.

Once you've clicked that, you'll be taken to the edit page for your ignore list. To add someone new, type their name into the text field, and click 'Okay'. To remove someone on your existing list, simply uncheck the checkbox next to their name, and then save your changes. You can do this for multiple users at once if needed.
How do I report a post?

To report a post, simply click the 'Report' button in top-right of a post. You should see a pop-up with 'Report a Post' at the top of it, and some fields to fill in. Simply select the reason from the drop-down, and add any context needed using the textfield below it. Don't worry too much if you don't know what category to use, or what reason to give; it's better to report a post using the wrong category than not at all!
What do I do if I'm being harassed by another user?

If you're being harassed on TSR, the first thing you should always do is report the user - remember, you can report VMs and PMs from users too, so even if there's nothing on the public forum, you can still flag them to us. You can also add them to your ignore list, and if that doesn't work, you can raise them in Ask the Community Staff too.
What do I do if I see someone breaking the rules?

If you see someone breaking the rules, please report them - it can be really tempting sometimes to reply to them instead, but that will just encourage further rule-breaking, and may even get you in trouble too!

Where can I find the community guidelines?

Here! On desktop, they can also be found by going to My TSR-->Quick Links on the tabs at the top of the page.
What are some common topics that are against the community guidelines?

There are a few things you can't post on site:

No advertising, no porn or adult content links, nothing illegal so expect posts of that nature will be removed.

Referral links (eg. to WhatsApp or discord) are also forbidden.

Personal Details (such as email addresses or phone numbers) should not be posted for your own protection.

Spoilers for films, books and tv shows unless a thread states otherwise can only be posted in spoiler tags so as to not ruin them for others (created by typing

Spoiler

)

Exam papers cannot be posted until a year after the exam season the paper was part of, so do not post these/request them.

Finally, and probably most importantly, current issues relating to self harm or suicide should not be posted for your own protection. Historic issues of this nature and other potentially triggering topics such as eating disorders should be posted in a spoiler with a trigger warning such as this: tw (eg.) self harm

Spoiler

which produces this:
tw self harm

Spoiler

Where can I post about any issues I have with the site?

Depending on the issues you have there are different places to post about them. If you have an issue about a specific person, or post that hasn't been resolved from reporting it, then post in Ask the Community Staff. If your problem is about the app, post in New TSR App - Feedback, if it is a bug that needs fixing, post in Report a problem and if it is a suggestion, post in Feedback and suggestions. From time to time threads for feedback about specific issues may be posted in other forums which of course you are also welcome to post in
