I wish this one didn't win because now it's going to be ages before we do Revolver or Abbey Road :grumble:

Perhaps our #200 poll (if we get there) should be the next Beatles album
I have listened to secrets of the beehive but I've forgotten it

I'll review it today

Revolver/Abbey Road/Let It Be?
Secrets of the beehive

Sounds nice, although songs felt a little long for me. 7/10
Browser crashed, so here's take 2 for The Beatles - A Hard Day's Night

A Hard Day’s Night - What a classic! :yy:

I Should Have Known Better - Nice harmonica. :yy:

If I Fell - One of my favourite Beatles songs. :yy:

I'm Happy Just To Dance With You - Great stuff. :yy:

And I Love Her - Fantastic guitar solo. :yy:

Tell Me Why - Okay.

Can't Buy Me Love - Another classic, and with good reason. :yy:

Any Time at All - Not bad.

I’ll Cry Instead - Preferring Side 1 so far. :colondollar:

Things We Said Today - Grew on me. :yy:

When I Get Home - Probably good, but compared to those first few tracks? Eh.

You Can’t Do That - This is different, like the energy. :yy:

I’ll Be Back - Strong finish. :yy:

9/10. Brilliant stuff, but I did prefer Sgt. Pepper's.
A Hard Day's Night was a good album. Maybe a little repetitive in style, compared to Sgt Pepper. But the songs are still quite intricate.
I'll Be Back was a particularly good one, I also very much liked Any Time At All and You Can't Do That. About half of them I'd already heard :colondollar:

soooo 8/10?
Sweet - Desolation Boulevard (Going with the original RCA track listing)

The Six Teens - Good start! :yy:

Solid Gold Brass - Yes. :yy:

Turn It Down - "It received limited airplay on the BBC because of the lyric ‘God’s sake’" Fun chorus. :yy:

Medus(s)a - Love a good myth or legend-inspired song! :yy:

Lady Starlight - Sweet, indeed. :yy:

The Man with the Golden Arm - Very different, but very, VERY good! :yy::yy:

Fox on the Run - Nice. :yy:

Breakdown - This one was okay.

My Generation - I know this one! But not this version, unsurprisingly. Decent enough cover.

8/10 :blow:
The little solo in the middle of Lady Starlight sounds almost exactly like the intro to The Joy of Painting by Bob Ross
Okay I really like this album to the point that I'm wondering if my previous scores were too high relatively
A Hard Day's Night

All good, but a little repetitive. 8/10
Sweet - Desolation Boulevard

Man With the Golden Arm drags out the drum solo a few minutes too long for me, but I otherwise really like all of the tracks, 9/10.
Weezer - Weezer - Weezer

This sounds good but the lyrics don't do much for me. Not sure how to rate it, maybe 6/10
Weezer2

My Name Is Jonas - Not a bad start. :yy:

No One Else - Didn't like this, though.

The World Has Turned and Left Me Here - Passable background music, lyrics are meh.

Buddy Holly - This was fun. :yy:

Undone - The Sweater Song - Odd, but good. :yy:

Surf Wax America - Nice. :yy:

Say It Ain’t So - Definitely getting better. :yy:

In the Garage - I can relate. :yy:

Holiday - Good. :yy:

Only in Dreams - Bit long and slow.

7/10 from me.
Album #143

Derek and the Dominos - Layla & Other Assorted Love Songs

7/10 for Weezer2, distinctive-ish sound, nice riffs, didn't really listen to the lyrics I just had it on in the background.
Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs

This album probably has my favourite electric guitar playing out of any of them. This is Clapton at his best, for sure, although it's still distinct from his solo work and with Cream. I think it's only a double album because they don't know when to finish the song, though. Listening to it all the way through is a bit of a commitment.

I Looked Away - strong start

Bell Bottom Blues - drags on a little, still very enjoyable

Keep On Growing - ditto

Nobody Knows When You're Down And Out - nice change of pace. With a Robert Johnson-esque ending riff!

I Am Yours - there's a bit more variety of sound on this album than I remembered.

Anyday - pleasant, bit too long

Key To The Highway - basically just a long jam session. Apparently wasn't intended to be recorded!

Tell The Truth - a very good one

Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad? - they're sounding a bit similar by now

Have You Ever Loved A Woman? - a cover, but very fitting lyrics given how Clapton felt about George Harrison's wife.

Little Wing - very good, although I prefer Jimi Hendrix's

It's Too Late - pretty nice. But feels more like filler.

Layla - ****ING LOVE IT. On Spotify it's my most listened-to song of 2020, but that's probably only because I listened to Muse using Google Play.

Thorn Tree In The Garden - ahh an acoustic piece. And it's a lovely end to the album.

Alright, well, 9/10.
Layla & Other Assorted Love Songs

I Looked Away - Very nice start! :yy:

Bell Bottom Blues
- Brilliant. :yy:

Keep On Growing - Long, but fun throughout. :yy:

Nobody Knows You When You're Down And Out - Too slow for me.

I Am Yours - Wow, this was different! :yy:

Anyday - Alright, but loooong.

Key To The Highway - Longer still!

Tell The Truth
- Had its moments.

Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad? - My attention was starting to wander after the last few long ones, but this dragged it back. :yy:

Have You Ever Loved A Woman?
- Again, just a bit too drawn out for my tastes.

Little Wing - I like. :yy:

It's Too Late - Not bad.

Layla - Flawless. :yy: Even the long instrumental doesn't feel over the top.

Thorn Tree In The Garden - Short but sweet finish. :yy:

8/10
