Layla & Other Assorted Love Songs

I Looked Away - Very nice start! :yy:

Bell Bottom Blues
- Brilliant. :yy:

Keep On Growing - Long, but fun throughout. :yy:

Nobody Knows You When You're Down And Out - Too slow for me.

I Am Yours - Wow, this was different! :yy:

Anyday - Alright, but loooong.

Key To The Highway - Longer still!

Tell The Truth
- Had its moments.

Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad? - My attention was starting to wander after the last few long ones, but this dragged it back. :yy:

Have You Ever Loved A Woman?
- Again, just a bit too drawn out for my tastes.

Little Wing - I like. :yy:

It's Too Late - Not bad.

Layla - Flawless. :yy: Even the long instrumental doesn't feel over the top.

Thorn Tree In The Garden - Short but sweet finish. :yy:

8/10

I'd mark it down because Eric Clapton wants more of us to catch Covid 19.

Just looked it up with his song with Van Morrison. god that's annoying
The White Stripes - Elephant
This album cements my theory that lengthy song titles are a defining feature of alternative rock.

Seven Nation Army - it actually blew my mind to find that for some time when I was alive, this riff didn't exist. It seems so ubiquitous.

Black Math - ok now back to obscurity. This one was nice.

There's No Home For You Here - damn.

I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself - nice enough.

In The Cold, Cold Night - ooo very different. I like!

I Want To Be The Boy To Warm Your Mother's Heart - nice.

You've Got Her In Your Pocket - also nice.

Ball and Biscuit - good, bit too long

The Hardest Button to Button - oh I know this.

Little Acorns - strange. Not bad though

Hypnotise - decent

The Air Near My Fingers - alright?

Girl, You Have No Faith In Medicine - pretty good.

Well It's True That We Love One Another - oh how meta

A little better than Weezer. 7.5/10
Added The Killers - Sam's Town to the backlog, as it's getting thin.

Yeah, I read about that. I'd say it affects my rating of him as a person rather than any specific album and its music, though. :p:
The White Stripes - Elephant

Seven Nation Army - Takes me right back to secondary school every time, fantastic. :yy:

Black Math - Also nostalgic, and good. :yy:

There’s No Home for You Here - Failed to chart apparently, which might explain why I don't remember hearing it before. I liked it, though! :yy:

I Just Don’t Know What to Do with Myself - Brilliant cover. :yy:

In the Cold, Cold Night - Loved this back in the day (and still do :yy:) but I genuinely forgot this was by The White Stripes, as I associate them with Jack White's vocals! :colondollar:

I Want to Be the Boy to Warm Your Mother’s Heart - Not bad.

You’ve Got Her in Your Pocket - Noice. :yy:

Ball and Biscuit - Good, especially the guitar solos, but long.

The Hardest Button to Button - Yes. :yy:

Little Acorns - :lolwut:

Hypnotize - Short filler, sounds okay.

The Air Near My Fingers - Meh.

Girl, You Have No Faith in Medicine - Clever. :yy:

Well It’s True That We Love One Another - Odd, not sure what to make of it. :dontknow:

Another 8/10, the first half was pure nostalgia.

Even if they had never recorded one more song, Seven Nation Army would be a wonderful musical legacy.
Metallica2, aka The Black Album
Barely listened to Metallica before. I think I knew One and Enter Sandman.

Enter Sandman - yes

Sad But True - also good. I wonder if the style will wear on me though.

Holier Than Thou - well, so far still good.

The Unforgiven - best guitar solo so far. the rest is alright.

Wherever I May Roam - nice.

Don't Tread On Me - that explains the Gadsden snake.

Through The Never - alright.

Nothing Else Matters - probably the best one so far

Of Wolf And Man - okay.

The God That Failed - ditto

My Friend Of Misery - to answer my earlier question, yes.

The Struggle Within - ehhh.

It kind of declined with the last four songs, which is a shame, because I liked it a fair bit at the start. 7/10
Metallica

Enter Sandman - I often heard this blaring from my brother's room, years ago, but not with enough clarity for me to make out the lyrics. Now that I hear them, I like them. :yy:

Sad But True - :thrasher: :yy:

Holier Than Thou - Alright, but starting to sound samey already!

The Unforgiven - Loved this one. :yy:

Wherever I May Roam - Good. :yy:

Don’t Tread on Me - Powerful. :yy:

Through the Never - Okay.

Nothing Else Matters - Different, nice. :yy:

Of Wolf and Man - :yy:

The God That Failed - Forgettable.

My Friend of Misery - Sounds like several others I've heard so far. Guitar solos were quite nice, though.

The Struggle Within - Unremarkable.

Agreed, 7/10
Also another suggestion: Marvin Gaye - What's Going On

(I found out surprisingly late that this wasn't the meme song)
Red is a Christmas colour, right? Some of the song titles are on theme too, for 2020 at least. :p:

Album #146

King Crimson - Red

Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/album/13dGZzRzFoejmyVXAbTPAH
Three step link from King Crimson to where I live.
Robert Fripp is a member of King Crimson.
Robert Fripp is married to Toyah Willcox.
Toyah Willcox has an album called Sheep Farming in Barnet.

There is no sheep farming in Barnet any more- it referred to a petting farm now closed. We only have horses and cattle now.

Matt Bellamy from Muse has also farmed sheep in the past

there's another link :holmes:

Also fun bit of trivia: Killing In The Name by RATM was the Christmas no. 1 not too long ago, just to prevent it going to the winner of X Factor
King Crimson - Red
tbh it was only a matter of time before I nominated this album anyway. I'd listened to the whole album maybe once before, didn't really remember any of it before listening today (except Starless).

Red - very noice instrumental

Fallen Angel - very noice song all-round

Once More Red Nightmare - continues to be good

Providence - violin goes surprisingly well with prog rock

Starless - the only song from the album I knew beforehand (since I was like, 9). This is one of my very favourite songs, up there with Layla and It's Late. But it affects me in a much different way to those two.

Maybe it's because I've been tipsy all evening, but **** it I'll give this a 10, why not.
King Crimson - Red

Red - Decent instrumental opening. :yy:

Fallen Angel - Nice sounds, with lyrics that aren't quite so cheerful sounding. Little long and slow. :yy:

One More Red Nightmare - Best so far. :yy::yy:

Providence - Loved it, very creepy and dramatic sounds. :yy::yy:

Starless - That nice sounding woodwind instrument. :coma: Brilliant ending. :yy::yy:

8/10 :santa2:

That's no oboe :eyebrow:
Marvin Gaye - What's Going On

What’s Going On - Very pleasant. :yy:

What’s Happening Brother - Nice. :yy:

Flyin’ High (In the Friendly Sky) - Wow. :yy:

Save the Children - More of the same, still good. :yy:

God Is Love - Not my cup of tea. And then it ended mid sentence, which I wasn't expecting!

Mercy Mercy Me (The Ecology) - This was different! Loved the instrumentals and vocals starting and stopping. :yy:

Right On - Nice latin sound, but a bit long.

Wholy Holy - Sounds okay, but religious lyrics don't do much for me.

Inner City Blues (Make Me Wanna Holler) - And ending on the best track, IMO! :yy::yy:

7/10
