The Student Room Group

Traditional, PBL and Integrated Courses

Yes, I know I'm being really lazy, but does anyone know of a site which tells me what each med school uses?

Can't think of any off the top of my head but this article lists the main ones which use PBL.

Cheers Hygia! I think all my unis (BSMS, Imperial, Warick and Swansea) use system based, although Swansea may be pure PBL. Can't really tell from the webistes (which are all remarkable unhelpful).

Imperial is heavily science based, IIRC.

I actually made a list earlier in the year, but I've now thrown away my printed version after I've picked my choices and I can't find the saved version on my computer.

I don't think you understand what integrated means, and it doesn't mean a mix of PBL and Traditional.

It refers to the level of clinical integration within the course. So the course can be integrated and traditional, PBL, or a mixture of both.

Out of interest, how 'scientific' is medicine?

(Btw, my comment was pointing out a lack of understanding of what Beska said.)

As for your question, I can't say I'm the most qualified to answer that yet. The first module we did was largely a recap of relevant A level content, and we've only just started the 2nd one (although there is a lot more new stuff in it). There is always the old piece of advice that medicine isn't that scientifically challenging - it's the sheer volume of information that makes it hard, but I can't really comment yet.

Oh this is going to become a science vs art topic isn't it?

Not until you mentioned it... lol

But if you'd like - :fyi: the word "medicine" comes from the Latin "ars medicina" meaning the art of healing.
