Oooo what speciality?!

Ok guys i need ideas!

We're thinking of putting on a 'surviving as a student nurse' night for jan freshers

Put yourself as a first year again- what sort of things would you want to know?
Ideas we have:
- a survival kit, aka hand cream, pumoce stone for feet, black pens, stress ball, lanyard etc
- old book sale from 3rd years & qualifieds
- q&a session about bursary
- budgeting workshop
- bodyshop table & reflexology taster session
- talk from midwives
- cooking demonstration on budget food etc
- childcare & nursery stands
- student map of nottingham

Any other ideas?!

Why the talk from the midwives? Nice idea, just generally wondering :p:

I think expands the Q&A session from bursary to covering other things.. from what i remember we were all far more concerned about asking questions about the course - travel arrangements / placements / essays etc..

I think a bloomin lecture on the importance of USING the handcream might be a good thing to add too :p: state of my hands at the minute from all the handwashing in A&E, i think i need a trip to occy health for some strong stuff!
Exam- horrible, horrible, horrible. Not holding out much there, but neither is anybody else for that matter.
Presentation on the other hand went pretty well. My lectures said my content was good and i presented it well

Congrats on the presentation!
Sorry to hear about the exam.. you never know though!

My presentation tonight.. i'm nervous lol.. My mentor has taken my assessment booklet home to do my final grade.. i'm quite possibly more nervous about that... i really hope i do okay after my not so great intermediate :frown:
Placement all done.
Did well in the end
Loadsa skills signed off.
They said i was really good and saw me as a staff nurse not a student, arww
Looking forward to my next placement now..although i think nothing is gonna compare to A&E :p: Should find out what my next placement is soon....

It has sub-specialisms in colorectal and trauma, and all reports of the ward are fantastic  so happy enough.

The idea of a survival night is fantastic!! Infact, I would be tempted to copy... haha.
I like the idea of midwives, but I think first year, maybe a talk from a Link Lecturer/ Practise Educator on what is expected of them on placement? xx

Obviously something on placement may be good-BUT they dont go out till march, and im aware that during their induction week they'll have an awful lot of info being thrown at them. Im thinking making it a light evening and promiting the fun, extea curricular and social side of being a student nurse
Micro teach day tomorrow, wish me luck!
I dreamt about doing it last night and its set me into a right panic today!

Attention grab

Sorry for the intrusion, so I've just heard about extended nurse prescribers - google says 'within their competence' - is that access to the whole BNF??

Dunno, i know there are different certificates you get with levels and training
I love this time of year for me. No essays, no exams..just me, placement and 4 weeks off at christmas :coma: Perfect!

However I hate summer time when everyone goes on holiday..and im stuck revising for exams, and next year will be handing in dissertation!
Jealous! Ive got rid of the workload, but placement on monday and working over christmas- no fun!

awww that sucks. I just got my email through confirming i'm on the bsc pathway!

3rd year is starting sooooon, very excited just want to start it now!!

Also look at my countdown- i'm into almost less than a year to go!!!
Hellooo, I've not been in here for a while! How is everyone?

I got my assignment results back! Got 95%, 61% and 58% - passed them all yey
I've not long finished my last placement. Start my final 1st year placement this week which is 9weeks long on a diabetic ward, can't say i'm looking forward waking up at 5am to get there for 7.30am though and I have to do 3 weeks of nights which should be good!

Also, in uni we received info about our elective placements for second yearr! I reaaally want to go abroad :frown: I already have money saved up but it's just organising it is going to be tricky!

Ditto.
Ive got the ball rolling but it can be a hefty process. A couple of girls here are going Oz, seems to be tricky and costing them a small fortune.
You have anywhere in mind?

Got last weeks exam result back today, 64%. Not amazing but its a pass, was only a mock and i can book my ideas up now.
