The plot: thin, boring, similar to hundreds of cheap romances.
The language: repetitive, boring, the same throughout the series.

This is like comparing classical music to rap. Are you a fool?

Ah, Paul Dacre's publication pulls out another case of journalistic genius.

What the **** is this bull****?! Twilight isn't even on the same calibre as The Very Hungry Caterpillar let alone Shakespeare. Shakespeare's unprecedented impact inspired many authors, musicians and playwrights even GCSE and A Level English students like me acknowledge his credibility as a paramount figure of literature. Twilight however is the biggest load of *******s I've read in my life! The only demographic I can only think of who actually enjoy *shudders* Twilight is for 12 year old girls who only read it because their friends are doing it; these girls are ****ing sheep. Comparing Twilight to Shakespeare is essentially comparing: Ke$ha to Tempa T, Nicki Minaj to Nas and Chardinay to John Legend.

Hey! Careful what you say about The Very Hungry Caterpillar, fond childhood memories man...

I agree with this, if you read past the simple love story there is a lot of substance and deep meanings behind twilight if you read into it who else agrees.

No, there isn't.

I know, I know :'). It was one of the first books I ever read in my life; the book itself is better than Twlight. When will these silly teenage girls (some boys as well) that Twilight is ****e?

Twilight + ****e = Twi****e

I very nearly broke my "no negs, ever" rule for you, OP...
I'm assuming you mean Shakey's (shush I'm an English student taking a Shakespeare module, I'm allowed to call him the ^.^) plays, rather than his sonnets, then?

Well yes, because Twilight clearly draws inspiration from classic literature, mythology, and theological allusions, and deals with plots that have such a depth that scholars will still be finding new themes and angels to explore 400 years after they were written.....oh wait NO. Seriously have you READ any of the Twilight novels?! I've read schoolkids creative writing pieces with a more aesthetically pleasing style than that of Ms Meyers.

I reeeeallly hope the article/OP/Both are trolling on this one....

Can't think of anything further from Shakespeare myself - awful use of grammar, awful style of writing, a plot which does not satisfy, no actual themes, characters with only one dimension, no adaptability whatsoever, no humour, no moral struggle, no lessons to be learned, no redeeming value whatsoever.

Do the Daily Mail know who Shakespeare was?
You read the daily hate mail, that says it all!

'Twilight is considered a modern day shake spear'

I agree with this, if you read past the simple love story there is a lot of substance and deep meanings behind twilight if you read into it who else agrees.

Most romance films (or films with aspects of romance in) will share something with Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet...it's the archetypal love story. It's hardly surprising. It's just the Daily Mail trying to 'big up' a young person's film to attract young readers and garner support. So, yes, the chances are Twilight does bear resemblances to R&J, and possibly a few other Shakespearean plays; but the actual difference is that Twilight is a load of c***.

Twilight reads like a ****ty fan fiction written by a horny 14 year old goth.

Comparing Twilight to Shakespeare is like comparing Beethoven to N-Dubz.

Poor comparison.
I was expecting to see 'LOL JK' after it.

To be fair, Shakespeare did write entertainment for the masses, and made a lot of money doing so. He didn't get recognition as a genius in his own time. Indeed, he was criticised for the showiness and melodrama of his work. Just like Meyer ...

I think people can get a bit rabid about the difference between classics and books for the masses; after all, once upon a time Jekyll and Hyde was considered the latter, but these days it is studied as the former.

NB: I have not read Twilight and I imagine I would prefer Shakespeare infinitely. I am just saying.

Lol. The stories they manage to get are so interesting though, on literally a daily basis

Didn't somebody say that there hasn't been an original story since Shakespeare?

No idea if it's true or not.
Shakespeare didn't write about shiny vampires..
