Well yes, because Twilight clearly draws inspiration from classic literature, mythology, and theological allusions, and deals with plots that have such a depth that scholars will still be finding new themes and angels to explore 400 years after they were written.....oh wait NO. Seriously have you READ any of the Twilight novels?! I've read schoolkids creative writing pieces with a more aesthetically pleasing style than that of Ms Meyers.

I reeeeallly hope the article/OP/Both are trolling on this one....

Most romance films (or films with aspects of romance in) will share something with Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet...it's the archetypal love story. It's hardly surprising. It's just the Daily Mail trying to 'big up' a young person's film to attract young readers and garner support. So, yes, the chances are Twilight does bear resemblances to R&J, and possibly a few other Shakespearean plays; but the actual difference is that Twilight is a load of c***.

To be fair, Shakespeare did write entertainment for the masses, and made a lot of money doing so. He didn't get recognition as a genius in his own time. Indeed, he was criticised for the showiness and melodrama of his work. Just like Meyer ...

I think people can get a bit rabid about the difference between classics and books for the masses; after all, once upon a time Jekyll and Hyde was considered the latter, but these days it is studied as the former.

NB: I have not read Twilight and I imagine I would prefer Shakespeare infinitely. I am just saying.
