friends invied me to xmas party

one of my best frends recently invited me to a xmas party rub by the local church group or some such. he seems to be a comitted christian, and has been one of my best frends for around 5 years. i believe quite strongly about reason, evidence, et cetera, and i have heard that this gathering is quite religious. i want to go, but i really dont want any really awkward situations...

well, i just like to go out, and try things. i like virtually all aspects of religion - the socialising, the community, etc. the only bit i dont like is the actual religion. and the non-religious bits do sound quite fun.

I know. this is exactly what i was planning to do, but i cant be the onoly person ever to have been in this situation. just wanted advice
