Stores airbrush Christ out of Christmas

wow. The daily mail strikes again, I think it's disgusting, personally but then again, don't want to offend muslims, hindus, druids, wiccans and atheists with images of Christ having any association with christmas

Multi-culturalism for ya

To be fair it was a pagan holiday before the Jesus brigade came along with forced conversions mass rape ect, and brought us all the good news that Christ died for our sins.

Maybe the religious cards weren't selling?

Christmas has become a holiday for everyone to enjoy, not just Christians. Christian themed cards are still available, I don't really see what the big deal is.
Besides, the stores are probably just responding to market demand. I'd imagine that few people bought Christian cards, so now they stock fewer Christian cards.

Oh yeah. Think how pissed off all the Pagans feel!

Guess what Christians. MAYBE YOU'LL JUST HAVE TO:

I knew from the title that this was a daily mail story

It's kind of the stores choice what kind of cards they sell.

What makes you think that it would offend any other religions? Did you see this quotation in the Mail's piece?

Anas Altikriti, of the Muslim Association of Britain, said he was ‘worried’ at the increasing secularisation of Britain.
He added: ‘People who are looking for proper choice of Christmas cards should raise it with the store manager.’

Supermarkets are not 'airbrushing' anything. Like any business, they exist to make profit. How do they do that? By stocking items people want to buy. If there was a demand for religious Christmas cards, Tesco et al would stock them.

It would be interesting to think about why they aren't selling. My guess would be a combination of increasing secularisation and the fact that people buying religious-themed cards will probably do so either from their churches, from smaller, independent shops or from specialist card shops. There's probably an element of class divide; if the CoE is 'the Conservative party at prayer', maybe its members are not flocking to Asda and Lidl...

Isn't that pretty much the rule for every Daily Mail comment box
Who gives a flying ****?

Supply and demand - in a secular society, where Christmas is celebrated in a secular way, is it a surprise that people don't want to buy religious Christmas cards? Just about any argument I would make has already been made in this thread or the comments of the article.

Lol

I can imagine how pissed they must be at what they may see as the bastardization of Easter into a modern commercial christian event to be comemmorated
In other news, less than 10% of British people, most of them old, are practising Christians. This affects nobody.
Havent you learnt yet TSR?
Do you have a story you want to share? Will it start an interesting discussion? Is your source the Daily mail? Then nobody is going to take you seriously. -_-
This is Capitalism taking over christianity the same way christianity took over paganism
Who wants to get a card with a depressing picture of a skinny guy nailed to some wood when you can get one with a picture of a cute little baby polar bear?

Right, and where are the muslims, hindus, druids, wiccans and atheists who said they were offended?
