Overuse of "LOL" when it isn't relevant - I'm sick of it!

As the title says.

I know this is not only restricted to TSR, but it seems every other text message and online correspondance some peeps seem to always write LOL for the sake of it. LOL supposedly means "laugh(ing) out loud" but there are some peeps who keep LOLing everything when it is not remotely amusing at all. Why? Can't some people try and diversify their vocab a bit as well as less of the "Txtspk" on the net?

Why do some people have to remark lol at almost every given opportunity? It's not even funny anymore.

But no, seriously. I tend to use lol either ironically, OR when I'm posting on the internet, I re-read what I've written and it sounds angry. 'Lol' tends to soften things.
Sometimes I do use it to highlight humour though.
