Bring parents to UCAS open day?

I have a few UCAS open days to visit after recieving offesr from my uni's,
Are you expected to come with a parent or come on your own :colondollar:

I went to the Leicester one last Saturday, and perhaps 70% of people had parents with them.
Of course, I went by train as my parents couldn't give me a lift. Obviously, if your parents drive you there, then they'll probably want to look around with you as well.

I am going to Leicester as well :biggrin:
I am! I don't really want to go by myself so my Mum's coming with me :biggrin:

:awesome: Going without parents ensures that you don't get embarrassed by them, e.g. them acting like tourists or saying embarrassing things.

also means it's harder to compare your thoughts though - parents often pick up on things that potential students don't, especially if it's the OP's first uni visit.

That's a good point; I hadn't thought of that.

its easier if you go with your parents. that way if you go to one of those lectures about student finance etc. you dont have to listen as hard :P
I've only been on my own or with friends so far, if I go on my own I find I end up speaking to more people and finding out stuff rather than just walking round looking at the buildings.

hmm.. I went to Leicester last saturday also...I was one of few parent-less individuals...how did you find it anyway.

I'd go alone if I were you. I went to the Leicester one last saturday and although many people were with their parents, I felt much more independent lol and if I was with parents, I'd be like much more quiet and less likely to talk to other prospective students like I did...

I think it's a big step for your parents also, they want to see where their child is going to be spending the next 3/4 years. Mine wanted to come, they really enjoyed the day and they could ask any questions that they wanted also.

I've been with my friends also and tbh, I preferred going with my friends only, but my parents were anxious to an extent and wanted to see what unis were like, so I was happy to go with them.

Most people get some form of support from their parents while they're at university, and they'll most likely want to see where you could be spending the next three or four years of your life, so you can't blame anyone who takes their parents along with them. I wouldn't think it weird at all.

I don't see the problem with either bringing your parents or going on your own. I do not get why this bothers people at all. I went to one open day with my dad, another with my mum. Most people bring their parents, and often the case is that parents and prospective students are given separate tours.

Although I haven't been to any with my parents, at the ones I have been to most people have been with their's.
With the vast majority, I went with college. With one, I went myself. Its a 3 hour train journey and my Mum would get bored of them talking about networks lol

I'm the same. I dunno, i just find it awkward socialising with new people when your parents are there lol. If they're not, its no problem. :smile:

my parents came with me last year to all open days i been to. its nothing to be embarrassed about
I'd find it weird to ask questions or to generally be social when my parents are there. It also makes it slightly harder to socialise with others, when their parents are there

I'm definately taking my parents, although I don't reallyyy have a choice seeing as my mum's paying for the flights to England and back :3
