I've heard that the Imperial students are so hardcore that the computer science students have never touched a computer.

Hands on.
Based on my experiences so far, I'm delighted I :got: chose not to go to Oxford.

Basically it comes down to this. If you want to play dress up and eat dinner by candlelight in a draughty building and live in a bubble for 3-5 years then go Oxbridge.

If you want to earn alot of money and be an employable person that can releate to people from different backgrounds and socio economic groups go to IC/LSE/UCL.

Listen to this guy
he's right

Oxford better than Kensington?

Whatever dude.

You're going to have to get an awful lot of help from mummy and daddy if youre planning on renting in Kensington.

Oxford vs Shepherds Bush would be a fairer comparison.

(I do still think London>Oxford by a long way though)

To be fair, if it weren't for college subsidised accommodation you'd also have to get an awful lot of help from mummy and daddy if you were planning on renting in Oxford

Oxford vs. Earls Court/Fulham is fairer. Hammersmith for the medics especially

If Cambridge got rid of all it's courses apart from Maths, Natural Sciences, Engineering and Economics then I'm sure they'd top those figures comfortably. A higher good honours rate + prestigious name tag = More £.

I'm afraid you'd be wrong. Comparing courses, Imperial's Computer Science course tops all the courses at Oxbridge, and has the highest starting salary of all courses in the UK.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that on average Imperial's starting wage is higher than oxbridge even if you get rid of the 'soft artsy courses'. That's because a ridiculous amount of Imperial graduates start work in the city.

Reading is the best in the country for cybernetics

You get one guess as to why this is...

cybernetics head lecturer in Reading uni is an imperial graduate
He gave us a talk about the department, it was brilliant. I live quite close to him actually

I'm guessing you're talking about Kevin Warwick?

He's a legend, he was my project supervisor while I was there.

He is brilliant indeed.

Despite the fact that Imperial came out a step ahead of Oxford in this year's Times World Uni Ranking, one might be a fool to think that Imperial is somehow 'better' than Oxford.

PS: Imperial is a great uni too but Oxbridge is still miles ahead than others, and we all know why.

Just out of interest, do you go to uni? If so, do you go to either?

They are both good, these threads are pointless. It's not something that can be easily quantified and people will just disagree.
Indeed. The merits of one specific course over another are easier to qualify and/or qualify, but two substantially different universities? And anyway, in the eyes of prospective employers a 1st from one is the same as a 1st from the other, so in the grand scheme of things the subjective opinions offered on this thread matter little...

Offering my own subjective opinion however, they're both pretty ****ing good.

Your OP reads like you're an applicant, and your UCAS says you're an applicant (and applying to neither Imperial nor Oxford no less). But please correct me if I'm wrong

I am indeed - what's the crack?

Lol, you're defensive nature towards the uni was enough to tell me that

and even in my earlier post i never said anything against Imperial, but i only chose a side according to topic and presented my view on it. Apologies if i got carried away on that.

Cheers!

Your view is cool man - I'm just politely disagreeing with it

Evidently being a current student is a competing interest, but studying a regulated subject such as medicine, and never having been rejected by Oxford or Cambridge, I reckon I can offer a somewhat impartial opinion (?!).

I suppose the gist was that it's too hard to compare the two: firstly due to subject offering - Imperial being somewhat specialist - and secondly due to the objectively high standards at both (which you mention to be fair), resulting in one comparing much of a muchness at the end of the day. Even when comparing specific subjects (as I suggested) it's still tricky, e.g. the (initially) broad Engineering Science MEng at Oxford with the equivalent x Engineering MEng at Imperial, which by definition are less broad.

It's accurate to say, however, that in terms of entry requirements many courses at Oxford & Cambridge still select higher achievers from the applicant pool.

I'm sorry if I came across as defensive/aggressive btw - that wasn't my intention :colondollar:

If one person had a 1st from Imperial in Chemistry, and another had a 1st from Oxford, would there be any real difference in their career prospects?

Im thinking of Imperials reputation as a scientifically-specialist university here

I looked at your signature, and just to say I'm doing Biological Sciences, and I've got the same offers as you, except reversed (Imperial ABB and UCL AAA). It's a good life, eh?
