Are women smarter than men?

I will concentrate mainly on books smarts and cleverness. I realise that this is one of those unanswerable questions but I would like to see where you lean.

Women

Between 1901 and 2010, the noble prize has been awarded 543 times. Women have been awarded thirty prizes. One woman has won it twice.
Does this mean that women are not as smart as men are?

Men

Girls achieve significantly more than boys in primary and secondary education.
Does this mean that boys are not as smart as girls are?

Blurred lines

There have been studies to suggest that boys are not catered to in the education system due to their need for tactile simulation. Sitting in chairs and listening for an hour and a half is generally easier for girls than boys. Thus, girls are able to absorb more information and get better grades.

Contrary, it has only been a recent phenomenon for women to dedicate the majority of their lives to work. They are pushed into the fields of being a mother or being a teacher. While men are motivated to work as much as they like to push, forward their work. If a father was to work from 7am to 10pm it is more accepted than a mother working those hours.

Therefore, the argument about how men are smarter because there are the likes of Newton and Steven hawking around is invalid. I am certain that if women where to put the majority of their lives into science then they would be equal if not smarter than the men.

In addition, in relationships there is research about how successful and intelligent women have a lower marriage rate compared to their less intelligent peers. Some men seem to feel rather intimidated by intelligent women especially if those women are smarter than they are.

On the other hand a successful ‘bread winner’ man would have his pick of women because that is what society says is good.
If people picture successful intelligent women as loners who cannot find a husband then why it isn’t obvious why there are less women Newtons?

Women have brains a third the size of us. It's science.
Depends what you define as smartness, academic achievements, success in relationships ("social intelligence" - bah), Career achievement/Salary etc.

What is bigger: the earth or the earth?
Men's brains are less well formed and shrink at a faster rate than women's.

Does it actually matter? No.
Nothing good will come of this really will it...

women are dum
No. Neither sex is smarter than the other, they tend to have different strengths and weaknesses, although you get some crossover. If you look at exam scores, girls are smarter, if you look at IQ, boys are smarter, and so on.

Then why comment?

yes, Women are smarter than Men because there have been more important Women in recent years than Men in crucial discoveries. *sarcasm* Are you kidding me? since when will a Women be handling brain surgery?

Lets just face it

examples: James Watson and Crick discovered the structure of DNA before Roselin Franklin did (Rosalin Franklin is female), James and Crick got there first because they were prepared to takes risks.

And all the big minds behind Business are Male too, fewer Women.

Women are built for the kitchen/ caring for familty members/ cleaning etc... then even have tits to milk the babies for **** sake

Girls develop at a quicker rate in the developmental stages, ergo they perform better mentally in the earlier stages of education. With this said, I disagree that either men or women are 'smarter' than the opposite gender; intelligence is all relative, and I like to think we can only truly attribute cognitive thinking variations between men and women to certain fields of knowledge. Anyone can learn practically anything if they are exposed to it for long enough and actively wish to pursue it, and as such it's only a matter of how they're able to use it that should be taken into account.

Following Adam's loneliness in the Garden of Eden, God felt he had to create a female partner for him. Thus, Eve, the first woman was born. When faced with temptation from the very evil snake and his apple, Adam succumbed, having been convinced by Eve. Was this Eve clearly outwitting Adam to rise in the esteem of God? Or was it not? Find out in the next episode of: "Is this thread worthy of sarcasm?", Monday next, 8 PM. Until then, babye!

Guys are lazy at secondary school and college so you would have to favour girls, at Uni I have no idea what the statistics are though the subjects most people would think "Oh **** that's hard" generally contain a slight majority, if not a large majority of guys.

In many ways schools are biased towards educational methods that benefit women and disadvantage men.

More women go to university than men now. Women are catching up in previously male-dominated subjects. Schools have far more female teachers, especially at primary level. Boys are constantly reminded that girls will outperform them. Universities erect ridiculous departments like "Women's Studies". What kind of message is this sending to boys?

Still, it makes my academic achievements all the more sweeter.

Women are more average than men are. The rate of genius in males is far higher than in woman, but so is the rate of severe autism and other forms of mental deficiency (as well as just simple low IQ). The fact that university used to be reserved for people of superior intellect was reflected in a higher rate of males attending, now university has become the bastion of the average more women attend. I think the reason highly intelligent women are unsuccessful in relationships is they are more demanding. Interestingly enough there are about 3x more male psychopaths than women, which predisposes one to all kinds of success - high positions in corporations, surgeons, special forces etc. But also prisons - which men get put in much more than women.

Males and females are of equal intelligence. The lack of women achieving great things is merely due to socialisation, and women are now able to achieve more due to their status as more than just carers.

Women may be better in an educational environment as the pro-feminist bias suggests, but men are usually more driven and competitive, so have a significant advantage in the real world. Also many women tend to gravitate towards intellectually stimulating yet less well paid degrees and careers. Art schools tend to be jammed with girls.

Equal; however some are more lazy so lack the academic achievements.
