getting in with certificate achievement

basically i was unable to finish my btec national diploma in engineering at college due to unforeseen circumstances however i will be receiving a certificate of achievement awarded by edexcel giving me a grade for the 9 units i didi manage to complete.

i have been looking at the foundation engineering and computing courses at sheffield hallam uni as they only require a minimum of 40 points. i have also completed key skills level 3 application of number andhave quite good gcses ( 4As b n 5Cs....As in science maths n business)

Do you reckon it would be difficult for me to get onto these courses?

It depends what grade you were given with your certificate. BTEC National certificates are allocated UCAS points, the number is given below:

D* 70
D 60
M 40
P 20

If you have a merit or higher then you have the 40 points needed for the course. Key skills at level 3 will give you and additional 20 UCAS points if they accept this too :smile:

is the certificate i will receive going to be a BTEC National Certificate you reckon? because ive been told i will receive a certificate of acheivement from edexcel for doing only half the full diploma. was wondering if they are the same thing?

i havent receiveved it yet but for 9 units i got 2 D's 3 M's n 4 P's. got a D in mechanical principles n merit in maths if thats any use

haha got some news for you

D = 18
M = 12
P = 6

2 D = 36
3 M = 36
4 P = 24

Total = 96

Certificate PP=72 MP=96 MM=120 DM=144 DD=168

so that gives you MP, which on the UCAS traffic is the same as 120 points

well i can see why, i was going based on Diploma, but as you haven't completed 12 units you wont be able to get that :/ i m really sorry for confusing you :frown:

but anyways a Certificate is based on 6 units which i would belive would could out of the highest

D 36
M 36
P 6

So would be the same as
D* 70UCAS POINTS

hi peeps! thankfully i managed to clear up some of the confusion today. I may be receiving a BTEC National Award or the New QCF BTEC subsidary Diploma fro Edexcel ( which are basically the same). Although i did not complete the 2 years for the National Diploma, i still completed the same core units and specialist units required to qualify.

I have been looking at coiurses that require At least a GCE a level or "BTEC National". The subsidary diploma i may get is basically the national award but with updated framework(septemper 2010).

Should i still be able to use this to gain entry into courses that ask for BTEC nationals?

and i m sorry no you wont be able to, beacuse the BTEC National is the same as 3 A levels which you will only have the same as 2, you can apply for ones that have 2 :smile:

and the same as 120 points?

lol sorry i didnt realize...well the old BTEC NQF was BTEC National Award, BTEC National Certificate and BTEC National Diploma. The new framework is QCF BTEC with BTEC suibsidary Certificate, BTEC subsidary diploma and BTEC Diploma. (as of september 2010 The old NQF qualifications will no longer be awarded and the new QCF qualifications will be instead) the contents of the new ones look almost identical to the nationals? The award i get is the subsidary diploma which is the equivalent to 1 a level. theses are the courses im looking at:
