Anybody know how to get full marks (or even just the general idea) for question 4 c?

Got an A in the mock paper but still managed to only get 2/7 on that question - any help would be appreciated.

You need phenyethanal + 2[h] =n phenylethanol
You need to draw it out and put the reagent under the arrow = NaBh4 + heat

Then you need to draw out phenylethanal = phenylethanoic
you also need to put the potassium dicromate and reflux under the arrow

Then you need to draw the phenylethanol + phenylethanoic in a esterification reaction to make your ester. Dont forget the reagent

You get marks for the reagents and the products you make i think

Cheers for the fast and clear response, only realised now that I've reread it that it says the phenylethanal is the only organic compound - I just added phenylethanol without explaining how to make it.

I am 100% sure but i think its ketone 1 because the spectrum has 4 different carbon enviroments and so does ketone 1. Ketone 2 has 3 carbon enviroments and ketone 3 (well the one i have drawn it has 3 as well ) so i think its ketone 1.
If anybody thinks i am wrong please correct me as its just a guess :frown:
