Would You Date/Marry Someone With Opposite Political Views To Yourself??

Only if she supported the BNP, obviously.

Not if they were opposite, but obviously I don't expect them to agree with me on everything. A few differences of opinion are good; makes for a better discussion, but if I were to be with some ultra-leftist we might end up physically harming one another tbh.

My boyfriend and I disagree, fundamentally, on just about everything.

....apart from our love of debate.

Brilliant signature, chuckled for about 10 seconds
It depends, although in my case probably not.
If she supported the BNP, was a Nazi etc. then no.

Other than that, it's a non-issue.
I voted 'No, I think it would be too difficult'. Reason is my own political views run DEEP. They form part of a much larger set of values that influence how I behave and what I expect from others. It's unlikely I'd be able to bond with somebody who has radically different morals to myself. Although come to think of it that might help in terms of sexual tension.. haha but I really doubt it'd work out in the long term...

I heard of this discussion taken place a lot recently and wondered whether political views are a stumbling block for relationships. Could you marry or date someone who votes for a different party to yourself?

I know some Americans who wont marry a republican (or vice versa) and similarly I know some people who are Labour voters at uni who wont date tories because of what their parents might think. Does anyone have this problem? Would you date strongly has different political opinions to you?

I've voted 'probably not'. Never say never, but I just can't see it working between myself and a Labour supporter. I'm quite a right wing Conservative (my views are similar to the republicans), and I have firm ideas about how I want my children to be brought up. I'd like them to be at boarding schools or very strong independant schools, for example, and I doubt a socialist would agree with that. I also place a lot of value on traditions, which again, a socialist may not agree with.

I don't have any problem with lefties, and some of my friends are socialists and Labour supporters, but I just think that long term, there would be too many problems.

I could possibly marry a centrist though, or a UKIPer.

Not if she is a Tory, no. Being a Tory would mean she is selfish and heartless, and for me that just would not do. I could probably just about deal with a centrist.

Awww Teveth, you love me really.

Really though, there's no need to be quite so rude.
Yeah sure. I dont judge people on their political affliation at all. My boyfriend is Lib Dem, im Tory. Possibly BNP is the only party that would be a big issue haha. However, I couldn't date someone with no political views at all.
I think that it would make life interesting - political arguments can be quite fun!
However, if they supported the BNP or a party like that it would be a no.

I would be fine with her having a different political opinion, as long as it wasnt communist or fascist.

i don't care about politics, all parties are the same, they all are liars under a different colour flag.

i would date any girl regardless of their political view unless its BNP

Liberals who marry conservatives are sell outs. I could never do it and true liberals wouldn't do it either.

I have no problem with making friends from every part of the political spectrum imaginable, but I couldn't go out with someone seriously who wasn't on the same page as me. It'd mean that either we'd have to never talk about politics, which would be strained and artificial (especially considering I'm a current events junkie) or that we'd just row and disagree all the time, which isn't good for a relationship either.

Most stupid statement ever?

Who made you Judge and Jury on who Liberals should marry.

If I disagreed with my girlfriend on politics, I just wouldn't speak of it.

My girlfriend is a Green and used to be labour which is pretty much complete opposite of my political view and I like it because we can actually talk about politics together.

My ex used to agree with me on everything about politics and so we never talked about it because it felt like I was talking to a mirror.
