what proportion of your time effort and money at christmas is spent on yourself, excesses and indulging your immediate family. what proportion is spent on the poor and others without money or family. what do you DO for the less fortunate at christmas to show that you care??

i thought so.

On Christmas Day itself, it is a family day, so I don't actively do anything that's true, but I donate money, and throughout the christmas season I tend to do a far amount of volunteering and stuff, whether that's for homeless charities or helping at nativities and carol services. I give up a lot of my time to help others, so don't you dare judge me!

It's also not just about what you do but the attitude you have. It's far better to enjoy yourself, while recognising that others are less fortunate and doing what you can to help, rather than passing judgement on other people purely because they happen to have a good time.
I don't hate Christmas, I'm no longer bothered by it anymore. I'm 19 now, the magic has gone now, Christmas is for the childern really, I'm confident that if I have a family of my own, the magic will come back. But for now, it's just another day, albeit a really long day.

i HATE xmas and ALWAYS get soooo depressed this time of year. i dont know what it is, the miserable weather, the sparkly fakeness, the stress of everyone expecting everything - i dont know, i just hate it soooo much i just want to sleep and have it be over.

anyone else feel the same? why?

EDIT: if you LIKE christmas, and want to go on about how JOLLY and MERRY and HAPPY you are, spending it with loads of family and getting loads of presents, please do not post. this is for miserables only so we can consolidate the sense of bah humbug.

i am spending it alone, going church 8am then ignoreing the day. i have asked everyone to give me gifts from Oxfam Unwrapped as i dont belive in materialism. Xmas sucks. i dont drink or eat meat either.

Love the fact it brings people together.
I hate how it has become a means of advertisement for brands, using holidays as an excuse to get more money out of us..
When the snowman brings the snow
Well he just might like to know
He's put a great big smile, on somebody's face
If you jump into your bed
Quickly cover up your head
Don't you lock the doors
You know that sweet Santa Claus in on the way

Well I wish it could be Christmas, every day
When the kids start singing and the band begins to play
Oh, I wish it could be Christmas, every day
Let the bells ring out for Christmas
I like Christmas and I'm a Muslim! Everyone seems much happier which is nice to see

Emos are retards.
From November onwards its hard to escape all that naff infantile ****e. Come February the usual economic pundits will be lamenting the probable lack of consumer spending; blaming snow/flu etc and then every **** and his dog ****s themselves in to oblivion over the latest austerity/diet/fitness craze. I prefer the idea of Ramadan tbh.

negro hair oil moisturiser and an afro comb
vaseline and lip gloss
mince pies
a large 1kg bag of party cheese savories
dark chocolate ginger

so yeah i donated already. i just was honest maan and said, i see you everyday on my way to work, it aint right. merry xmas and handed her this massive bag. and i wrapped that sh*t up individually into loads of small parcels, wrapped real tight with ribbon and shiny paper and ting, real nice real raw and she looked like she was gonna cry. then i shouted, Praise the Lord!! then ran away.

then im goin Tridentine Mass o Xmas morning to see The Lord.

Why cant we have 4 public hls in the middle of summer instead? xmas is miserable. xmas sales are even more sorryful.oh dear :frown::frown::frown::frown::frown::frown:

Please don't take this the wrong way..but if you do a good deed, surely it is best to keep it to yourself? Rather than telling everyone, where it could be seen as boasting. (I'm not saying that you're boasting, I'm saying it could be perceived as such)

Selfless charity is the best form of charity imho. Not expecting anything in return, not even recognition for what you've done. Just doing something in a humble manner for someone out of compassion, love or whatever the reason may be.

Just my two cents.

nobdy on here knows me. im hoping people will read this and be inspired to do likewise.

before i did this, i was googling for 'good presents for homeless people' and 'giving gifts to strangers' to see what people did, if it was ok, what they might want and what they would use. i hope people can use mines to do the same. if everyone did this thee real spirit of christmas would gradually be restored adn it would not be the preserve of the rich and large-familied either, but would include the poor or forgotton, just as Christ had intended

I have been feeling a little down over the last few days. I don't think it's really anything to do with Christmas, but it's not helping to cheer me up like it might have done in the past.

Why do some people have to try and suck the fun out of everything, cheer up! I would have thought it would be nice to see so many people being happy and festive, not using it as an excuse to judge them....

Fair enough if you don't know anyone on here..and I can see how it could be inspiring to share your experiences. Good luck with it all

I look forward to christmas for one reason: epic amounts of food that I don't have to pay for. It's another little commercialism that I severely dislike about christmas, and I'm left with cold leftover sandwiches and product-of-a-blender soup for a week, but my love for epic quantities of unhealthy food overrides both of these setbacks.

I hate everything else about christmas though. Especially christmas shopping. Urg. In fact, this is the one thing that I like about not having a girlfriend.

Furthermore, it makes me despair every year when I see that Tesco consider it to be commercially viable to start selling Christmas merchandise half way through October.

christmas is just another day of eating and ****ting, oh and eating more...

but its good to celebrate a festival that has nothing to do with the religion of christianity...its actually the date for the pagan harvest...

so there you have it people...its a pagan festival!

ps merry paganmas

:emo: No we're not. You just don't get what we're about, we're too deep for conformists like you to understand. You shouldn't judge people you don't know... how would you like it if I cut myself? The second I'm finished straightening my hair, I'm gonna get the scissors out of my make-up cupboard and go to town on my forearms you inconsiderate chav. :headbang:
