Are you Iranian? your hate for the current Iranian regime is just

I dislike them a lot as well by the way  I'm just wondering why you always manage to bring them up, even in a thread like this one lol

I don't.

If you don't believe me, take a look through my recent post history, aside from threads which are actually about Iran, I very rarely bring up the regime otherwise.

Even in this thread, I didn't bring up Khomeini because he was an Iranian, but rather because he's the first person that immediately sprung to mind who described a war as "sacred", an adjective which sits rather oddly with the communist ideology the North Korean regime claims to adhere to. If I had known of another leader who had used the same term, I would have mentioned them instead.

Okay?

I'm not at all being selfish. We don't need to get involved with another war fosse all know where the other one has ended us in.

If it ends up being a nuclear war, we don't really have a choice about getting involved.

Chill... I was just asking. Damn people need to chill!!!
Hmm, it now looks much more likely than it did in 2009, but given the many empty threats beforehand, this could still be a bluff. I wonder if Uncle Kim's died yet? Whatever happened to the "heroic restraint" that North Korea pledged a few days ago?

If anything else results in casualties then then this WILL escalate into open war.

It is just doing what any other state would do if their sovereignty came into threat.

I find it hard to argue that N.Korea isn't justified in being miffed off, when S.Korea and the USA (only the largest military force known to mankind) is at your front door, trespassing your borders, staging large scale military drills on disputed territory, shooting their cannons into their vicinity threateningly and whatnot. Plus N.Korea see S.Korea as their country being occupied by U.S imperialists.

If S.Korea and the USA really wanted to ease the tensions they would either not do the drills, or do them somewhere else.

I agree. I think North Korea is deliberately being provoked. The incident of last month, in my view, is entirely South Korea's fault.

As we signed the 1953 ceasefire agreement (and are UN Sec council members), we are oblidged to step in if it kicks off again.

Im guessing what I said was stupid... But I didn't come into this thread to offend or sound ignorant that wasn't at all my aim.

Here we go again! Lol... it's funny how I'm revising the Korean War right this moment. Jee, how satirical of me.

This is pretty interesting

Cheers for that. It is interesting though that South Korea have less personnel yet a much higher budget, and North has 20% of South's budget and has more of everything but fighter jets.

Although I can't judge because I've no idea what either of these countries are capable of...anyone care to fill me in?

We live on the same planet; we're all human beings; of course it's our concern, you self-centred oaf.

The events that happens several thousand miles away aren't really any concern of mine either, to be honest. As long as Britain doesn't try to play the "peacekeeper" role then it won't affect the UK unless the North start lauching nukes left right and centre.

Dunno about you, but I fail in empathising with someone who is living in a communist state... which kinda makes an effort to care about it a little hard, for my perspective.

Yes we're all humans beings, yes it's our planet, but my faith in the human race really isn't up to scratch when you consider all the **** that's going on constantly. This is little more than yet another reason for my hatred to be all the more relevant, I'm afraid.

I hope so much that North Korea doesn't go to war, or at least not right now. Please wait until I'm safely out of China and back in the UK next August!

The North Koreans did not choose to live under Stalinism/Totalitarianism. They were enslaved, shackled up and irreversibly indoctrinated. In fact, no one ever desired to live under Communism bar a few homeless, smelly utopians in Denmark.

War is unlikely, n korea has been bluffing for years, and there have been similar crises i.e. assassination attempts without outbreaks of war.
Nuclear war; the US presence ensures using nukes would be suicide, because the US would just destroy it... so unless they have nothing to lose no nukes. and apparently they only have around 3/4 nukes with no way to hit Europe or the US so it really hasn't got much to do with us directly

Conventional warfare; Again, US troops are actually in s korea, so if war breaks out on a large scale they would be screwed. China has business with both US and SK, so war wouldn't be... logical...

A few months from now, we'll have completely forgotten about this. probably.

Tbh I see the most likely option as being China invading and occupying NK, no doubt they have considered it. Really it all depends on how tolerant China would be off a US dominated Korea.

what about the sinking of the south korean ship last year killing 42 south korean sailors? These have been in response to that.

Yes, I know. I think that has a lot to do with it. Although, as far as I know, North Korea hasn't accepted responsibility for it?

Fair enough to all the opinions here on this thread.

But hear this: my grandparents are in South Korea about 30km from the border. They feel the tension and they know the truth much much better than any media in the world.

Of all things to happen, they said that if the US sticks its nose even further into Korea it might get China and even Russia involved.

If that happens it has the potential to lead to the nuclear winter as a result of nuclear war.

Im actually going over to see my grandparents in 5 days from this post. I hope people arent being stupid and praying that the brits and the yanks end up bombing the korean soil...

Peace

Yeah. Apart from N. Korea is a communist state.

Not officially, at least not anymore. All references to communism were removed from the Constitution a while back, so now it's effectively a one party Stalinist dictatorship verging on socialism but not having the resources to do it properly.
