Branson isn't the best example. He was given over £1 million to set up a company by his father. He went from rich to richer.

Bill Gates went from zero to crazy wealthy.

No.

Was Barack Obama poor? Okay, why was I negged,- for this I assume?
I asked a question, you could have answered it.

No he wasn't. If I am correct, he lived a middle class lifestyle when younger.
I wonder who will play him in the movie.
Jay-Z (pretty much all rappers but he's had the biggest change)

Yes.
Middle class is arguably poor? (In relative terms to the superich,- in the grand scheme of things, then no of course not, but relative, yes).
Relative poor to richness.

Everything has to be put into context.

He is now going to have millions,- after he writes his book etc.

If he had a household income of say $120,000 before and is now a millionaire,- in comparison he was poor.

Most of these people didn't go from poor to rich in real terms, to be honest; many of them were relatively poorer members of Western states, but in world terms they'd always been pretty well off.
Quite a few I think.

Richard Branson

Bill Gates came from an upper middle class family, hardly "poor". For real life examples, Alan Sugar, Narayan Murthy, JK Rowling, founder of Ikea (cant remember his name).

If comparing Bill Gates to Obama, would you consider Obama as poor?

Maybe?
No in my opinion.

It depends if you mean absolute or relative poverty.

Absolute, then hell no,- neither are or were poor.

Relative to each other,- then yes, Bill Gates is rich, Obama poor.

But ofcourse not in the way you mean, relative to each other, yes.

Being middle class earning $120,000 does not make you poor. He had a very good education; prep schools, Harvard Law School etc which was funded by his parents and gave him the neccessary contacts/skills for his current job. The OP was implying a 'rag to riches' story, and Obama's past is far from that, regardless of relativity.

It is quite silly of you to assume he was poor... how could he possibly have gotten the connections and education (from private schools) needed to become the President if he was poor?

If you go back to my post, I put a question mark next to his name and explained why I asked the question..

In relative terms, in the way I am defining poor.

Bill Gates VS Barack Obama = yes, rich vs poor.

IT'S RELATIVE.

If you want to be pedantic, then yes.

I only asked a simple question, if it was a true rags to riches, and it is obviously not.

But yes the middle class are poor compared to the super rich.

Like I said, if you go back and look at my post, I didn't know he went to private school.

I read somewhere that he came from "humble" beginnings, and i've seen photos of him next to mud huts etc.

It was a question...
