Your opinion on my A-Level choices?

while it's still the 25th!

I'm definitely taking:

English Literature
Maths
Geography

and as a 4th choice I'm taking either Biology or Chemistry - advice?

Plus: I might take Classical Civilisation instead of Greek (one of the two is compulsory) as it's far more respected. But I hear it's really boring :mute:

What do you think?

Edit: I forgot to mention, I'm thinking of doing Geography at uni but I'd like to keep my options as open as possible (: Anyone know what I can do with these options?

Depends what you want to do at degree but they are all good academic subjects.

Healthy options. Could do pretty much whatever you want barring courses with specific subject requirements. But they're rare.

If you got straight A's you'd be looking pretty. And I can't help as to which to choose between Chemistry/Biology. Seeing as they are as respected/difficult as each other just choose which is your favourite by going to open evenings etc.

And choose Greek. Languages are always useful and Greek pops up in the English Language frequently.

Biology might go well with Geography as you could do marine biology!
Classics/Greek- is this a fifth choice? Either will complement English Literature.

Forget medicine ^_^ But wouldn't I need chemistry for marine biology?

Yep, Classics/Greek is a fifth choice. Haven't made up my mind yet :colondollar:

You don't need a fifth choice. Far better to do four and read around the subject a bit. It looks more focussed and also leaves time to do other things at school like drama or sport or music.
I dont know whether you need chemistry for marine biology- you could check out a couple of university websites to see.

I would advise Chemistry because it's a more intellectually rigorous subject, and would go better with Mathematics. Apart from that, they all seem fine.

I think they're good choices, all respected academic subjects. I think the combination of 3 science-y subjects and one more literary subject (Eng Lit.) is often well looked upon. If you're looking to do geography at uni you should have no problem. I know someone mentioned marine biology... I haven't personally looked at the subject (I'm thinking of geology) but I believe many places look for 3 sciences (maths and geography would count). I think those subjects should be fine for uni options though (unless you're looking to do law or physics or something else completely unrelated).

As for the Chemistry/Biology predicament, they're both good subjects, I would highly recommend at least one of them... go for the one you enjoy the most is what I'd say. I don't do Biology, but I've heard good things about it.

I'm a year 12 student, and I do Geography, Maths and Chemistry - I can tell you they're all good subjects. If you like maths, you'll like A-level maths - it's difficult but once you get the hang of it you'll be fine, and it's not a great deal of work. Chemistry is difficult, but I personally find it quite interesting, it's very well respected. And Geography is probably my favourite subject - it's extremely interesting, a good step up from GCSE, and I'm looking forward to the fieldwork parts when we do it.

Maths is an excellent choice as most unis want it for most courses. From the other two I would pick chemistry personally as it is more interesting and more applicable for geography course and not only it. Also chemistry is 50/50 number crunching and theory whereas biology consist of 90% weirdness with some random formula at rare occusion :biggrin:

I guess I'll do some research on a few other causes to make sure I'm not excluding anything I want to do. Other possibilities include law and perhaps geology or other natural/biological sciences.

It's compulsory - we choose four subjects, plus we have to do Greek or Classical Civ. :rolleyes:

That's Cyprus for ya. But I've keeping extra curics in mind, I'm involved in debating, plays and internation MUN conferences to give a few examples.

Law, perhaps, or English Literature. I'm also considering Geology and any other Earth/Biological sciences.

They're good. I'd say Biology seems to go better with Geography, plus a lot of people who I know did Geography also did Biology.

I'd recommend chemistry over biology if you're interested in geography. Surely they're highly related, chemical analysis of the soil etc. But I'm not sure - I didn't even take geography to GCSE. Anyway, if you understand chemistry, it takes up a lot less revision time than biology.
