i've posted it here because i want to remain anonymous, but in particular, i'd like help from any doctors.
i've just started working as an F1, and have had some problems with my f2. i started my rotation in the beginning of dec. he seemed really nice at first, but i knew to be wary of him because my best friend was his f1 during the previous rotation. when there was an undesirable job, he would let it be known it was undesirable and say immediately it is in an f1 job. he also makes 'jokey' comments about how rubbish i am at my job. now if it was true, i'd like to know about it, but when i question him later, he says he's only joking. problem is he makes these comments in front of all the multi-disciplinary team and medical students. then in the next breath he says oh i'm your SHO but i'm so nice to you.
i think i look like a naive impressionable girl who is easy to boss about so i try to stand my ground. i've had a talk after work with him about how i don't like it, and he says he doesn't mean to upset me.
however it came to a head last week when he said something i wrote was wrong, so i corrected him. then he brought up something else that he already told me was wrong the day before and i accepted it was wrong. this lead to a huge argument and he said we would only be strictly professional from then on. we didn't talk about it later, and he was super nice to me.
the next day we had another argument. he is really patronising to patients and takes their food and teases them. i half joked he shouldn't do that. then he went crazy and shouted at me about how i was being unprofessional - in front of the patient. It was so unexpected I actually thought he was joking. At this point the registrar walked in and asked what was wrong, but my f2 just dismissed it and was really nice to me for the rest of the day.
i really want to sweep it under the carpet and forget about it. i don't want to get him into trouble, but i don't want to get into trouble myself if he makes a complaint against me...my friends said i should tell my educational supervisor. he is on holiday for 3 weeks and is consultant for both of us. my registrar is a locum. i don't want to make a big deal out of it! any advice? (thanks if you read it all!!!)
