AH Chemistry Investigation - good or bad idea?

Hi,

I've been thinking a lot about the Advanced Higher Chemistry Investigation and I've came up with a few ideas, but I think I've decided on a decent idea...what do you think?

Separating and identifying amino acids in human hair?

Would you be using your own or somebody else's :ninja:

It certainly sounds interesting. Is it practical to carry out?
pretty good idea but I'd say it sounds a little complicated for an AH investigation - sure that would be a difficult procedure and outwith the realms of the AH classroom, mine was the iron content of Broccoli... not my choice!

I actually don't know who's hair I'd use, not really thought about it! My own I guess :p:

As far as I know it would be reasonably practical to carry out: Hyrolysis of the strands of hair to break down the protein, keratin into the amino acids. Then followed by paper chromatography to separate the amino acids, in order to identify them. It seems practical, but I'll need to speak to my teacher when I go back
