Really, because from the post above by Facticity, it seems that only about 2 - 5 other schools max can compete with Warwick in general. It seems like a very prestigious school far more than Bristol or Edinburgh and maybe depending on the ranking, more so than Durham. Not to say that those aren't all very good schools, because they are.

OP, Warwick is overated because people have such a Oxbridge and Durham/St. Andrews mentality (as if they are the only good schools) that they haven't realised Warwick has risen up phenomenally in the last 50 years past most universities.

There you go then. I remember when I had no idea about Universities and their rankings, showing a prospectus of Warwick to a friend: she practically laughed me out of the building.

I would have thought the Guardian's league tables would be rather politically motivated - at least that's what I've heard from elsewhere on this site, and there's probably some truth in it looking at SOAS and Sussex, for example

Why? People are dumb nowadays and most do not even take the time to research into universities. Why would your friend laugh anyway, when I saw the Warwick prospectus and the picture of the campus I was like :eek4:

It has the best compass in the UK and has the best student union and funding. The university is state of the art and pristine.

I quite agree, I think Warwick - from what I've seen - is absolutely delightful. She laughed because it was out of my league. I'm a B student, sadly. :frown:

It depends on what university guides you use. In either case your wrong about rankings almost completely.

OP, its simply because people don't know what people are talking about, prime example above. To be honest I trust Guardian table over the CUG rankings anyway so I would say Warwick is top 5 easily. I mean LSE is good but it isn't better than St. Andrews or Warwick and LSE is specialised to a few subjects compared to Warwick or St. Andrews. So I would go with the Guardian ranking.

Its overated because it hasn't been around since the founding of England and isn't a royal institution. Titles which come with age. Warwick ranks top among many subjects and in the UK has surpassed most unis. Don't listen to haters :smile:

Yes schools. Contrary to popular (wrong) belief, universities are schools. One merely has to look at LSE = London School of Economics

No, I am going by the simple League tables which I linked :curious:

Those were overall rankings placing Warwick 3rd and 7th overall.

It honestly only scores highly on a few subjects such as Math, Economics, Law, Politics and a choice other few. You don't apply to LSE if your not really applying for these subjects. Can you think of other subjects? Other universities have overall general high placings, whereas LSE is only in its few.

I think it is fair to say that if Harvard had the reputation LSE gets on these forums it still wouldn't deserve it.

No, I am speculating that LSE is hugely overrated, not because it is bad, but because it's reputation is far beyond what anything or anyone deserves. In hindsight, I didn't express this in the clearest terms possible. To be honest, I'm still not sure I'm being clear.

I think LSE, despite only offering about 15 subjects ranks so highly in every single one of those (I think it's top 5 for about 11/15 subjects) that it is definitely one of the top five universities, behind UCL, ICL, Oxford and Cambridge, IMO.
