ooh yea! I loved Warwick when I visited but they didn't do Anthropology :frown:

I've applied to Durham (obviously, being on this thread. offer but no college yet), St Andrews, Exeter, Oxford(rejected), and Sussex(offer).

I've also applied to McGill and will apply to UBC in Canada but really thats a little bit for ****s and giggles. They ask for much lower points in the IB and so I figured I'd go for it and see what happened.
The UK is far more likely though as I wouldn't be an International student.

Haha..oxford real b****s ..same happened to me.
Where u likely to firm??

Thanks but Oxford actually rejected me:wink:

I was just wondering because a friend of mine asked me about it. I don't even have an offer unfortunately  But fingers crossed! Have you heard already?

Yeah, over-offering... Now I know that withdrawing from St Andrews was acceptable  I thought it works like at Czech unis where they never overoffer, but if someone declines their acceptance, they can admit another applicant who didn't get first time around.

I've applied to Software Engineering at Collingwood

It'll probably be some time till i get an answer

Applied for Music (W300) at St. Chad's- my application 'has been received by a college' - fingers crossed

I'll be doing music at Hild and Bede next year!:wavey: Judging by mine and others' experiences, your application being received by a college is a very good sign...

Has anyone got an offer for Theoretical Physics yet?

Durham seem to allocate 125 places to 'Physics' (including Theoretical and with Astro etc.) each year for undergrads, and I've seen a few offers and a few rejections, however there are still quite a few of us waiting!

Same! (well mine is just for straight Physics). Playing the waiting game is quite tedious...

This is slightly inconsiderate to those who are still even waiting on offers from Durham, as is it to those who have recieved rejections. Why such a desire for reputation and being respected, what are you trying to prove? Wherever the University, you have to do the work yourself, the Uni isn't going to do the degree for you. Ox-who?

And it's inconsiderate to think Durham is on the same level as a better university.

lol yea, I'm actually not that fussed about oxford but its not a nice feeling to be rejected from anywhere.

I'll most probably firm Durham.

It depends a little on whether I get a spot on this course at Exeter which essentially gives me the freedom to design my own degree. This course however, is incredibly competitive and I haven't seen Exeter yet so if I do get an offer I'll have to weigh up those two.

I applied to St Andrews because even though its a competitive uni, they had asked for quite low points in the IB for my course. After I applied though I found it written in other places that these grades were a bit higher so its a less viable insurance.
I've never been enthused about going there as my dad went there and I don't want to go anywhere my immediete family has gone.
So I applied and if I get an offer and if the grades are lower than my current offer I might have it as an insurance.

But my mixup with the lower grades is a bit why I've applied to the Canadian unis, just to have as many bases covered.

Where are you thinking you might firm and why?
Has anyone had an offer from Durham for Biology with industrial placement? I applied to St Mary's on 11th October, by application was acknowledged and sent to the department on 21st October, but it's not got to a college yet.

I'm scared. I really, really, really want to go to Durham and am worried as I've had all my other offers through now.

I applied for Biology with Industrial Placement and I also applied to St Mary's but then changed my mind to Trevelyan at the last minute  I applied on the 7th October and mine got sent to a college on friday  The wait has been killing me. Hopefully it won't be too long for you now.

Is Durham your first choice?
Original post by eve_m
Yeah I've decided I like Grey  I think Mary's looks like one of the nicest of the hill colleges, and I might have to share for a term not - rather not, but I'd deal with it  Dude, silent discos aren't actually silent, everyone listens to music on their ipods or mp3 players you get given so everyone has the same songs! So you're not dancing to silence, that would be awkward  To be honest, halfway through pooling I was thinking 'if by some miracle I actually get an offer from Cambridge, I'll be really sad I don't get to go to Durham'.. So I know I'll be happy there, hopefully the open day will be good

Lol I know, just if you walked in and you just saw everyone dancing but you can't hear anything, lol!
Thats good that you are going to the university you want to, hopefully I can fit in too  How important do you think the open day will be? I have already decided I want to go to Durham, so I'm wondering whether it is worth the hassle to go over for a night.

Oh! I hadn't realised you were postgrad! where did you do your undergrad?

Yea I think I want to do music societies too, I sing though which is a bit less exciting than brass trombone, sounds very cool! Also MUN which I do at the moment and maybe Rockclimbing and swimming if I do as well, though I don't know how feasible either are (sports facilities really weren't high on my considerations for unis).

I want to do Anthropology but I have no idea where that's headed. The masters at Oxford is Cognitive and Evolutionary Anthropology which I really like the sound of but I dont know yet if I'll specialise in socialogical or biological.

I just know that this is what I want to do but where it'll take me I really don't know, which is a bit scary but mostly exciting!

You can do much more with singing I suppose, get a few friends together, do a choir
Oh no, I'm not a postgrad! I was just thinking of postgrad options, probably a bit far ahead, ye I'm still at sixth form doing A levels!!
I think there must be rockclimbing and swimming there, what is MUN?
I suppose your career path will become more clear as you go through your degree discovering your skills and weaknesses.

Ahh interesting, I also know of one Modern Languages offer! I wonder if it's the same person ... initials JB by any chance!?
If the languages dept is notoriously slow then I'm not quite so worried, they should start acting on it soon though, being as today is the deadline for applications.
Let me know when you hear back!

Well it was someone here on TSR, so I don't actually know them in real life.

Have actually transferred my application to a different department as of last week, but no news as of yet for that dept. either.
Reply 2695
Okay, I changed my application to a different department last week, but on AES it's still showing up as 'Combined Honours in Arts'. Should I phone up AES and ask them to change? (The course code on Track only changed on Friday)

Wow, congrats on your offer! Castle seems so nice! No, I haven't heard yet, but Castle is already over-subscribed for Classics, so if I was to get an offer, it'd rather not be at Castle unfortunately.
I love Edin too, it seems so very nice:smile: really hope to hear from my three remaining choices soon! So have you heard from Edin yet?

Thanks :') I think I nearly gave my parents a heart attack with my screaming on hearing I had an offer from Durham - totally unexpected!

Yeaa in a way I seemed to prefer Edinburgh to Durham when I visited it. I think it was because of the whole bustle of the city life I kinda liked, oh and the Scottish accent :P
But no haven't heard from them yet which is a bit of a bummer - haven't heard from Bristol either. So where are the two places you've got offers from again?

Yea I'm part of a few choirs now, a Chamber and a Madrigal one but they tend to be quite religious. And while singing the Messiah and stuff is fun, I really can't relate to any of it. I'm hoping to maybe get involved in musicals -- I have an unhealthy obsession with theatre, particularly musicals.
What sort of music do you want to play?

Wow, so you've already signed yourself up for a masters before you've done your undergrad?? how does that work? Or are you just doing a 4 year course?

MUN stands for Model United Nations, its essentially coming up with resolutions within individual committees. So for example when I went to the Paris MUN I was the delegate for Austria in the Disarmament Committee, I'm not from Austria, it was just one of the countries my school was assigned.
Its really fun and I know you can do it at University level because my brother does it at Edinburgh.

Unfortunately not two offers but two decisions. Oxford rejected me, but I got an offer from Warwick on the same evening, which was very nice because it was my first one:smile:
Still no news from the others, but at least Edinburgh confirmed the reconsideration of ma application officially! :woo:
I really hope I'll be able to visit Edinburgh soon, maybe in my Easter holidays... But then, I suppose I'll only visit if I was as lucky as to get an offer from there...:s-smilie:
fingers crossed for us!

Inconsiderate?

I think you are missing the point here. There are a lot of people on this thread who were recently rejected from Oxbridge (and lets face it, most people are). They're now in the process of adjusting to their new future, going to a university that is perhaps viewed as inferior. Many seem to be taking it very well, others are very disappointed. It's hard having to deal with not only your own disappointment, but also the disappointment of family, teachers etc.

What better place to chat to people than this thread where there are so many people who love Durham and are thrilled to be going there. This thread is for those who want to go there. We know it's not Oxbridge. We don't need to be told it's inferior. It helps no one.
